Sadly they do.  Women seem especially vulnerable.  They go after women, single mothers, the elderly and members of the immigrant community.  If you haven't ever watch SNL or seen Steve Martin in a movie, you just might get scammed by this character.  At least using Steve Martin as a moniker might  alert some people to the scam.

Apparently the Indians and Pakistanis don't know  Steve Martin is alive and well and lives in Beverly Hills.

Received a call today at 2: 52pm PST. He called himself Steve Martin.  The accent was Indian subcontinent or the subcontinent southern region of Asia.  It was definitely not a Hispanic accent.  The message was identical to yours but for the first name.

    Joan's friend
This Steve Martin creep apparently has the same speech and same way of threatening elderly people like our friend Joan. She unfortunately called the number back in fear of the IRS and a Hispanic woman identifying herself as Ashley Martin answered and told her she owed over $6,000.00. When Ashley found out she was on S.S. she lowered the debt owed to $30.00 and then to $5.00. They also said they would send a car to pick her up to get the payment! That's the part that's most disturbing..Don't answer this caller and don't call the number back!!

I had identical call, it's a machine not a real person leaving the message.  A holes.  I hope everyone is smart enough to realize this is a scam to get your money.  If you want to have fun with it go ahead but don't let them convince you any of it is real. I was temped to call back just to bust their balls but my phone will probably get charged some ridiculous cost for making the call. Maybe that's how they scam us.  Just delete and forget it, and go enjoy your day. Don't let morons who can't find something better to do ruin your day.

I got the same call -- Steve Martin with that heavy accent.  Left VM message -- same message.  I feel sorry for poor souls who actually fall for this and give out personal info.  (Out of curiosity, I called that number back, from a phone other than my home phone, and got a recording that the number is unavailable and no message could be left.)

Very Annoyed, indeed! We'd got similar calls before claiming that they are representing the department of Treasury and ignoring their message will be ended up with some sorts of punishment/penalties. Total losers! Stop calling already, or you will be ended up somewhere you belong to!” PS.: Caller ID shown as Los Angeles, CA.

Dude with Indian accent (Steve Martin), muttering something about a serious enforcement issue.  Seemed to have trouble reading his English script, and gosh, the Indian accent kind of gives away the whole scam thing.  I did NOT speak any English into the phone, and then proceeded to laugh hyterically.  There is zero chance of anyone getting any $$ from us, due to a phone call initiated by them.  Although have heard of this scam, this is the first time that I have heard their spiel.  Usually the guys with Indian accents are telling me that my computer has a problem ... which is yet another really dumb scam.  I used to never answer the phone, and block as many numbers as possible, but it didn't really slow down the number of scam calls.  Now, I never speak English when answering the phone .... and THAT works better than anything else for the usual scammer.  Steve Martin doesn't notice though, he just drones on sputtering through his idiotic script.

Received a call from this number at 10:39 Eastern time on October 20, 2015.  Someone identifying himself as Steve Martin left a message indicating that a lack of response from us would be interpreted as a second attempt to avoid appearing before a judge, magistrate, or grand jury regarding some unspecified Treasury Department issue.  We did return his call; there was no answer after more than a dozen rings.  We live in Ohio.

Have had calls from this # four or five times - one time that it was recorded it gave me the 'pitch' almost three complete times. I'd like to call them back and mess with them but not sure how ingenious they are to take some type of possible revenge for what I want to say. :-)

Received a call from "Steve Martin" suggesting I call him back at (323) 284-5627 regarding a notice I reportedly ignored from the Treasury Dept.  He asked that I call him to avoid an appearance before a magistrate.  Had a heavy accent.
