18 USCS § 912

- Marion, OHI received a phone call today (10-21-2015) to my home number with a message left at 8:55 am from the following number: (323) 284-5627. I wanted to know if this number is really from the US Treasury, because it said “unknown” on caller ID, and they didn’t say my name. I have not called the number back. I am not aware of any issue or reason anyone from the US Treasury would be calling, it just seemed strange because there were no other details. It sounds threatening.
Below is a transcript of the message was left from a male with an Indian (from India) accent:
“Hi this message is intended to contact you. My name is Steve Martin. I am calling regarding an enforcement action executed by the US Treasury intending your serious attention. Ignoring this will be an intentional second attempt to avoid initial appearance before a magistrate judge, or a grand jury for a federal criminal offense. My number is 323 284-5627. I repeat 323 284-5627. I advise you to cooperate with us, and help us to help you. Thank you. “
After listening to the message, I went to the US Treasury website, and found the following
http://www.treasury.gov/about/organizational-structure/ig/Pages/default.aspx
FRAUD ALERT: "SCAMMERS CLAIMING TO BE FROM THE TREASURY DEPARTMENT."
"Telephone and email scammers, many communicating from other countries, claim to be Treasury officials promising grants or threatening arrests unless payments are made. These thieves count on you believing them. But they’re lying, and trying to steal from you. Their actions are crimes under Titles 18 and 31 of the U.S. Code, and the Treasury Office of Inspector General is working to stop them. "
It said to "send emails to OIGCounsel@oig.treas.gov, or call 202-927-0650 to report. We will get their phone and email services cancelled."
I called and left a detailed message, as well I emailed with a transcript of the message. - in Virginia replies to piperReceived call today with same message; person calling seemed to have an East Indian accent. Definitely a prank call. Wonder how many people being "notified" do respond.
- JackieI also received the exact same message from man identified as Steve Martin, with same ominous threat to have action taken against me, however I was not given a name for "you".

We often run across Scammers who are arrogant enough to believe they are totally secure in their foreign location. They refuse to believe their VOIP lines can be taken down. This was the case with this particularly loathsome group operating out of Pakistan.
Besides the well-known persona of "Steve Martin", there were several others including “Jerry Coleman”, “Anthony Cooper”, “Eaton Gates”, “Kevin Watson” (elementary my dear Watson), “Eric Brown” and the mystery lady who goes by “Jessica” “Jennifer” and other aliases. She always uses the same voice and has trouble remembering her own name. All of them of course have heavy Pakistani accents, and all claim to represent the US Treasury.
They are now history and their phone line is dead.

- Seattle_Gal"Steve Martin" from 323-284-5627.....left recorded message on my phone. Area Code 323 is Los Angeles. The Very next day, the exact same man's voice, exact same message now says his name is "Dennis Gray" at 567-258-0019. Area code 567 is Toledo Ohio. It's almost laughable how awful this 'pitch' is. I feel sorry for anyone that believes any of this recording...and calls them back.....they are obviously preying on those that don't know how the tax laws work.
