This number is from Account Control Technology which is debt collection agency hired by the US Government Department of Education.  If they are trying to reach you, it's most likely because you have a student loan that has gone into default or you were listed as a reference for someone in that condition.

I got a note taped to the inside of my mailbox saying "call Benny" at this number.  creepy

I received a call from Benny at this number on the 27th of April. He wanted me to give this number to someone in my building that he had been trying to reach. I did what he asked, and for my trouble received an in person reply from the tenant in that apartment. She was incensed. I was amazed. I thought I was doing this person and Benny a favor as he sounded so concerned.

Now my question is: How the heck did he get my phone number and how did he know the apartment number of someone in my building. Creepy!

Is there any way of stopping this? Should the telephone company be made aware of this?

I would appreciate any good advice on this situation. It has been bugging me for days.

How did you find this out? Did you call the number?

If it is true it probably explains why the tenant in my building was so upset with me. Maybe thought I knew it was a collection agency, which I did not know.

yes I got the same thing on my apt door....just yesterday.....it must be illegal to do this....... i read your other posts.....well now that i know what it is I dont care.....it was creepy getting an unknown, but i searched the number and he is in antonio texas....he is a solicitor/collector/whatever.........

This person has now contacted my father and a friend of mine who has an unlisted number used for his internet, he was freaked out and called me, I have no idea... debt collector doesn't make much sense if he's calling friends?

And Benny was extremely rude and sarcastic when he called me and insisted I must know the person he was looking for.  When I told him to take my number off his call list because I didn't know the person, he acted like he didn't know what I was saying.  Eventually told me he didn't want to talk to me any more and hung up.  I called him back and told him if he called again I had his number and would get the authorities after him on harrassment charges.

There MUST be something the authorities/govt. can do about this!
