- memyselfandI replies to TThomasI know it sounds like the company is being uncooperative, but their hands really, honestly, are tied on this one. I work for a prominent bank and I understand how frustrating this is because I see it all the time. But I also know that there is a new law out that may help, so I do have two suggestions will give you some clout (and stop the calls).
1.) If the number is a cell phone, it is now a LAW that the company's support software must identify it as such (and all call integration software has a way of doing that now). If it's a cell number, the company (ANY company) must ask permission to call you on that number. If you say no, the number must be noted in the system and can never be called again by that company, even if it's a new account they're calling about. Tell the company: they know the law, but tell them that you do as well and let them know you are willing to pursue violations of that law.
2.) Your adopted daughter is being stupid, because she's giving out a number that she never intends to respond to, but the number belongs to someone who does know her. If she really wanted to skip out, she'd either give a made-up number; or give them her CELL number and let them know they do not have permission to call her on it. And legally, they can't if she says that - not ever, even though they know it is her number.
Hope that helps. - DestituteThis number keeps calling my cell and has a recording as Debt Collector. I was hit by a truck in 2009 by an underinsured person who got a ticket for $146 whereas I lost my house, vehicle, retirement and savings. Almost lost my job too. I scrape each week living in a camp ground for food etc. Something doesn't seem right in this country.

- artgal replies to Tired of these peopleGive 'em Hell! Compassion is dead. You know you've lived too long when s*** like that happens. So sorry it happend to you, I'm sure you didn't deserve it.
- artgalI just got a call from 334 396 3000. A lady left the message saying that they wanted to show me how I could save over 1% and if I wanted to know more, call this number ..yada, yada. Save 1% on *what*?? Very odd call but it didn't sound like a debt collector.
- Caller: Couldn't make it out, that part was chopped off the message.
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Nic P.Ive been contacted by these people over and over in the past. Im disabled and cant work full time. They havent called me any in the past few years until now. Its not even me they are looking for. They say they will remove me fromteir list but then it just goes onto the next rep and they call. Stupid computer automated crap. They always wanna settle to "save you money off your dr bill" pay now and only pay 40% of what you owe!!! What a load of garbage they just want you to make a payment so they can harass you for seven more years. If you dont make a payment it rolls off your credit in 7yrs. Every time you pay that renews their 7yr contract they dont tell you that part. They also dont tell you that special "discounted" price is usually the amount you owed the dr office in the first place. So if u stiffed the hospital round three to five yrs ago expect a call. If its been five to seven years they gonna ring it off tha hook tryin to get that payment before they cant collect. Rule of thumb if u owe and not gonna pay tell em your not payin and ask them the date it was reported to them. Dont be rude because if they put in their computer that youre not gonna pay your name wont pop up all the time. Every now and then it will though. You have to tell them for every file they have in your name. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION. Just tell them you arent paying and have no job. They have taken wages from peoples check in the past. Also if you ever get them off your back and still have oustanding bills DO NOT PUT YOUR NUMBER IN ANY RAFFLES DRAWINGS OR CONTESTS. THEY SELL PHONE NUMBERS TO BUY THAT JUNK THEY GIVIN AWAY. GOOD BYE & GOOD LUCK

- Jim replies to teecakesI found a sure fire way to end their harassment, call them back and REPEAT their harassment back to them, They hang up within a few seconds of "This is NOT a sales call, it is very importaint". (In a dull monotone)
That does it, call repeatedly (As they did) you won't hear from them again, they can't stand garrassment, (Their phone shows YOUR number) - Jeff Booker| 1 replyI am receiving calls from this unidentified number and from the post I see from others it is an collecting agency. I have given no cause or permission to call either my home or cell number.
- Garnett replies to Jeff BookerPeople don't need your permission to call your phone number, you know. It's a free-for-all unless you can prove harassment against specific people.
The best response is to not answer, don't call back, and block the number if they keep calling. It took 5 years of my doing that before my debt scammer stopped calling. - Nathan Thacker| 1 replyThese people are relentless. I have no debt and have never done business with them or anyone they're trying to collect for, but they keep calling. That is to say, their robo-caller keeps calling; they use several different numbers. I've not had any luck getting them to stop. In fact, I've filed a complaint with the FCC about them.
- Caller: Holloway Credit
- Call type: Debt collector
- BigA replies to Nathan ThackerSee that is a problem right there. The FCC has no jurisdiction over debt collectors. Read the following and make your complaints at the links provided:
Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes. The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.
