A woman with an accent left me a voicemail message on my work phone today with the usual verbage, i.e., "as soon as you receive this message, you or your attorney must call us...Do not ignore this message if you know what's good for you..."  She had a generic American sounding name of Amy Johnson.  These people should smarten up and use an actual foreign name. When will there be an end to these fraudulent callers???

I am to send them $200 today to settle  a payday loan in2006. I feel it is a scam.

a heavily accented man called saying he needed to talk to my attorney and telling me I owed for a cash advance loan.  When I ask for law firm name and address he just  keeps repeating he needed my attorney's info.  I hung up him and he called back from a 940 exchange.
Believe this is a scam.

The same as the above.  I have been receiving these phone calls for over a year.  I do not owe them any money.  Every time I block one number, they call from another number.  Its getting ridiculous.  There is a link on the www.ny.gov site, but I can not remember how to get to it.  We can email someone higher up that can help us catch these crooks!

Heavy accented male calls me on my cell phone and at work threatning criminal charges against me and the sheriff will be at my place of employment to arrest he also wanted to know if I had a lawyer. I hung up on him so he used a local number in my area to call me and said he was from the Sheriffs office and state he was the police and wanted my fax number to fax papers. I'm going to try to turn this number in to law afforcement but not sure they can do anything because it is all a scam and they keep changing there names and phone numbers.

I have been told that by not taking the caller seriously, he will have me arrested on Monday morning at my place of work.

Same as above. heavily accented male called from (347) number and when I didn't answer, he called from local number, told me 'very serious, serious' matter, return call immediately.  gave name of Frank Foster.  SCAM!

A heavily accented man called my coworkers place of employment over 18xs yesterday. I didn't want to pry, I thought it was debt collector. This morning, I arrive at work and she's crying, before I can get an answer, the guy calls again. He told me he wanted to speak to her & I said, "what is this in reference to?" He proceeded to tell me his name was Frank Foster and that he's a criminal lawyer and that he was sending the sheriff's department to arrest her, then he asked me did we receive the fax."  He sounded like he was straight LYING. He kept asking me what my name was. He thought I was dumb. I said to him, "Where do you work? what is your title? phone #? etc etc" My coworker does not speak very good English, so he was suprised at my tone and demeaner. I told him, "You are harrassing her and there is not a law in the world that would "immediately arrest" someone for not paying a bill! We are going down to the police department NOW to file charges against you. Now call here again and see what will happen!" My poor coworker said this man has her SS#, work and cell # and bank account information! She also told me he started laughing, saying, "I know where you work!!" She's on her way to file a police report, change her #'s and her bank account. She also needs to go to Social Security to find out what she can do about this. It's crazy. He hasn't called back since. But I'm waiting for him! And the fax that he said is laughable, it's full of mispellings and the language is not business like at all.

This is a criminal extortion ring operating out of India. ABC News released an investigative report on it in June. The FTC has indicted one of its ringleaders for criminal fraud:

I receive the exact same calls an average of 12 per day including calls to my job. I have never had a cash advance loan to even pay back much less still owe.SCAM
