Good morning, my name is Jake Abner. I will like to know if you are available to pre-inspect a new house I am interested in purchasing which I am already in contact with the seller.

Can i ask for a favor,  I have a floor installer working on my home also.  Can you supervise him on the job, I would pay you an extra $100 for that. He would be at the home the same day you would be working also to make it easier.

    Also used phone number: 657-331-7805

Received a text from 657-331-7805 wanting me to pre-inspect a house he is selling and would pay by cashier check.  Claimed his name was Jim Brady. There were grammatical errors in the text and the home actually belongs to someone else.

Received a text from this number, claiming to be Adam Greyson,  asking me to inspect a home. I looked up the home and it is a legitimate home for sale in our area.  He then texted me that the owner would let me in and that a flooring installer would be there at the same time of my inspection.  The next day he texted me that he had sent the check to me, gave me the tracking number but then stated that there was a mix up and that he sent me the money for the flooring installer.  He asked me to deduct my fees and forward the rest of the money to a yet to be disclosed location.  Today the check arrived with that same tracking number but it was from New York, drawn on a Hawaii credit union.  It is from Matthew Barnes, not Adam Greyson and has "Donation" in the memo block.  His text had no punctuation and was broken English.  I'm turning this over to the authorities.  I did not do anything with the check.  It appears fake, thin paper, encoded line too high off the bottom of the page.

Received a text from this number 914-430-8408 from Robert Roy looking to interview a Bookkeeper. I was asked to use the APP Wire to do the interview. The entire interview was all chatting which I found odd. Then I was emailed a application and the phone number on the letter head was from 347-709-2084. They're claiming to be Symnopsys, the company website isn't secure, and there's a real company called Synopsys. I kept getting asked about my banking information and them sending money for materials I would need. The whole thing is a scam. Don't give them any of your personal information.

    Illinois Home Inspector
I received a text 3 days ago from a person supposedly named Jake Abner at 516-464-3666 asking for a home inspection .  Finding an active listing for the property, he chose a date and time to have the inspection done.  He asked if he could pay by certified check and for my mailing address.  He then asked me for a "favor", saying that he had a “floor installer” working on his home and wanted to know if I could “supervise him on the job just for the main time you’re there”, and that he would pay me “an extra $100 for that”.  He then gave me a 2nd phone number (347-709-2084).

I asked him for his email address and the name/email address for his realtor and attorney.  I had to ask for this twice, and he responded the second time with only his email address (jakeabner177@gmail.com).  He also stated: “Good morning.  My assistance will be there to give you access to the house on your day of inspection.”  I left him a voicemail at the texting number indicating that I could not and would not take any responsibility for the “floor installer”.

The following day he sent me a tracking number for the certified mailing.  He then stated:  “Okay.  And also, it just came to my notice that the check you will receive is more than expected because the floor installers fee was added to it so once the check clears you can deduct your fee and have the rest sent to him he’ll be needing it for some materials when coming to the house thanks.  happy Thanksgiving Day.”  (Note:  this was received 6 days after Thanksgiving.)  I asked for a mailing address for this “floor installer”, but Jake never responded.  He sent a text asking if I had received the check and I told him I had not.

On day 4 (today), he asked again by text at 6:36 am if I had received the check.  I went to the local post office and found that it had arrived in a Priority Express Mail envelope – I did not open it.  A local police officer came to our house to gather the information in order to file a report and, while we were talking, ‘Jake’ called on the texting number to ask if we had received the check.  Recognizing the phone number, I handed my phone to the officer who began by asking him who he was and where he lives.  To no surprise, ‘Jake’ hung up.

Final notes - The return address was from John Strickland at 2941 Far Rockaway Blvd. in Far Rockaway, NY.  ‘Jake’, speaks with an accent and has poor spelling and grammar skills.

Same as everyone else. I am a home inspector. The guy sent a check for more money than I quoted him for service. Phone numbers he used to communicate with me include (347) 709-2084 and (864) 685-3207. Said his name was Peter Gates. Knew it was bogus.

You failed to report in the thread for the second number?  Why?  You did not think to warn people that this crook is using that number also?

Got a text from Adam Greyson with property details of a pending property in town. It was a private sale, so there is no agent to say they don’t know them. If you call it went to a voicemail in a different name. Only communicates through text and punctuation and language is wrong everywhere. Pretty obviously a scam from the beginning. Glad I found others with the same issue to fully verify.

    Just went through this today.

He claimed to be David Bryan and the owner was Adam Greyson

This is a text message claiming the same scam.

    Hello
I just confirmed you with the floor installers working at the home as the home inspector and also with the owner....
So, the check you would be receiving would be in excess, once the check is received you are required to deposit the check and get the cash...Then deduct your fee for the service plus extra $50 for gas. You are to send the balance to thefloor installers who will be responsible for providing me with a full floor installtion on the property.
I hope I can trust and count on you as regards the payment?.

This was his original text to our company.

Hello, my name is David Bryan. I will like to know if you are available to inspect an home for me at
Xxxxxxxx (privacy reasons for xxxx ) Ct, Myrtle Beach, SC 29579
    And this are the info;
    3 bd2 ba1,586 sqft
    Year built: 2005
    lot :8,712 sqft
    And it is currently vacant...
Let me know your quote and availability.

I felt super suspicious about it. So I looked the address on our county land record deeds. The owner was not Adam Greyson.

Luckily I told him that we will no longer be inspecting the property and that he will have to find someone else.
