- Carol| 1 replyMultiple times a day stating urgent IRS business. How do I block these calls?
- LG| 1 replyThese people have called me 4 times already today before lunch. They don't have my name or know it nor the companies I am associated with. Easterner calls stating " The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive and very urgent. We have received a legal petition notice against your name regarding tax fraud and tax relation so before things get worse and get out of hand, the number you can reach us directly is 352.458.5532.The agent handling this is John Smith. Don't diregard this message and do return the call. If I don't hear form you or from your attorney the only thing I can do is wish you a good luck as this situation unfolds upon you. This is a automated message from the IRS. Have a good day and goodbye." I called several times with number blocked only to have poorly spoken Easterner answer the phone in a call forwarded sweat shop/call center. Hardly any understandable english. Do not accept or return call. However I would recommend calling them and tying there lines up as much as possible. It's a total scam.

The IRS will only contact you by letter if there is a legitimate problem and never by telephone.

- Tim| 1 replyChecked my voicemails late Tues. night the 24th and heard two duplicate messages left on the 16th, supposedly from the IRS regarding an urgent matter of a tax fraud case having been filed against me that I should respond to by calling 352-458-5532. The voice message seemed so dull, lifeless and unprofessional, I thought it must be a scam because Jack Sparrow was the name given to talk to, but it triggered a memory of that being a charactor's movie name. But then there was a third message left on the 19th, supposedly from the IRS, again regarding an urgent matter of tax fraud and that I should respond by calling the number 844-368-1636. Ruined my evening until I thought of checking their validity online. Thank goodness this is here to help others eliminate their worries.
Why would anyone pay a bunch of people to make these calls to us if they weren't making money somehow from the data or info gleaned from those calling back the numbers they advise to call. I think it would be best to not mess with them in any way so they can't retaliate by selling your number/info to other scammers.
So delete their messages and have a wonderful holiday.- Caller: IRS

- CWG40 replies to CarolCall blocker might be of some help. Also don't pick up on numbers you do not recognize, or where there are caller IDs that seem odd. Or where there is no caller ID. There’s no way to stop the calls from being initiated. Calls originate in India and Pakistan and they spoof local numbers.
- CWG40 replies to JoseThey can't. Nobody can. Callers are located in India and Pakistan and as such beyond the reach of US law. Invest in a call blocker.
- CWG40 replies to TimTotal scam. Originates in either India or Pakistan. Block and ignore. DO NOT RETURN THE CALL!

I’m an Enrolled Agent with the IRS (Inactive). IRS does not initiate contacts by phone. US mail only. IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS does not threaten to involve local law enforcement or to arrest you for nonpayment of federal taxes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and demand immediate payment of money. IRS does not ask for financial information over the phone. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
. - MichaelAbsolute scam. Hang up on em if you pick up. Wouldn't it be nice if these folks could be tracked down? Or even better: NOT BE ABLE TO DO THIS!
