I actually got a recorded message today. I have been selected for free home security system. No installation or sevice fees. I could press 1 for more information, or 2 to be placed on the "do not call" list.

I have an old program on my computer called CallSoft Pro that I use to take care of telephone spammers. I only have about 140 numbers blocked because I'm blocking some area codes and exchange codes. I'm getting to the point where I will be blocking all calls from the states of Washington and Oregon.

I received a phone call from this number with no message left.  I, too, am on the Do Not Call List, so why am I getting these calls?

360-322-6269.  GE Security System for seniors.  Shows up as Marysville, Washington. Pressed "2" after their message to put me on their DO NOT CALL list.  We will see if it works.

I got a call this am, no message was left, and I do not answer calls from those I do not know. I would never purchase anything from someone calling me over the phone. Period. I also advise others not to press "2" to be removed from their list. That just lets them know they have reached an active line, and they also sell your # to others.

Pretending to be GE Home Security.   Never tell some idiot that you do or do not have an alarm system - especially ones that call YOU from these spoofed numbers.
Who would really want to do business with morons like this if they can't even abide by something simple like the Do Not Call List??  

Obviously they are not taking numbers off of their call list since this is the 3rd time I have been called from this same number.

People should continually file complaints with their Attorney Generals office and also file with:

The calls are being made from outside the US however most of the call centers (where you actually talk to someone after pressing 1) are in the US and the companies making the money from the scam are owned by people in the US. Asking to be removed from their calling list only verifies that they have a working phone number. They continue to call because it is a criminal operation and these criminals do not care about the law.

Many of these calls are coming from Costa Rica and India and they are using spoofed (false) numbers, which in itself is illegal. They do cold calling for or sell the leads to numerous companies in this country and they know that what they are doing is illegal. Tomorrow this same number may be selling Cruises, Timeshares or Security Systems but if you follow the money it usually ends up in the hands of an American LLC. Keep complaining to the FTC and FCC, and start bugging our politicians to pass laws to make it punishable in criminal court instead of handing out fines that they don't pay. Another course of action is to contact phone companies to find out why they won't block spoofed numbers. With today's technology that should be an easy thing to do, unless they are somehow profiting from the use of their systems.

For anyone thinking of using Special Information Tones (or as they're called in the industry SIT tones) to fake a non working phone number, they won't work. Since around 2001-2002, the costs of "digital" business lines have dropped dramatically, along with Voice over IP (Internet) telephone service. Neither of these use the SIT tones as the call information is carried separate from the audio.
This separate call information tells the calling party digitally if the call was answered, busy, voice mail, forwarded, rejected, etc. This renders SIT tones useless. Also the "TeleZapper" products that used to be on the market used this method as well, and were rendered ineffective for the same reasons.
It is also through this separate call information message that the spoofed caller ID information is transmitted.

Robocalls are illegal unless you have given them prior permission in writing (not worded into some small print contract from a 3rd party) and are absolutely illegal to a cell phone.  The Telephone Consumer Protection Act permits individuals who have received certain unlawful telemarketing, such as junk faxes or telemarketing calls, to sue the violator in state courts where they may be awarded up to $1500 for each violation.

Many of the disposable numbers come from Pacific Telecom Communications Group and they are currently under investigation and in the midst of various lawsuits. (The principles involved have been part of actions by the FCC under other business names).These businesses have ripped people off for millions of dollars, yet have paid only a couple of thousand dollars in fines. The only way to stop them is to throw them in prison for a few years to make this criminal activity less attractive.

The Oregon Public Utilities Commission has revoked Pacific Telecom's certificate to provide telecom services in Oregon.

The Indiana Attorney General’s Office filed lawsuits against:
Consumer Credit Group and Proactive Planning Solutions of Arizona for violating Indiana’s Do Not Call Law and Auto-Dialer Act known as the robo-call law. Both companies violated the Credit Service Organization Act and Deceptive Consumer Sales Act by not obtaining $25,000 surety bonds with the state and collecting money upfront without performing any services.
Debt Zero of California for collecting money up front, failing to provide services or a refund and operating without a $25,000 surety bond.
Clear One Advantage of Maryland and Credit Arbitrators of Texas for violating the Credit Service Organization Act and the Deceptive Consumer Sales Act by not obtaining the required surety bonds.

Write your Congressmen and Senators. We need CRIMINAL penalties against the companies that are profiting from these calls. Follow the money, slap them in prison, no one left to outsource to overseas boiler rooms, problem solved. Since they are operating across borders it should become a federal felony and should be handled by the FBI under the RICO Act.

Caller ID showed "Marysville WA".  No message was left on my answering unit.  When I called back on a "safe" cell phone, I got a recorded message thanking me for calling back on this marketing promotion and inviting me to press "2" if I wanted to be taken off their list.

I NEVER respond to be taken off a marketing list, since that just confirms that I have a valid phone number.  Instead, my phone company allows me to block all calls that don't identify and name and number and up to 15 specific numbers.  

Unfortunately, because scammers change their numbers frequently, it seems to be a never-ending battle.

For whatever good it does, I will report this as a "Do Not Call" violation.

Received a call today from 360-322-6269. I am on the do not call list, which is not doing very good in keeping spamers or telemarkets from calling. If I don't know who you are when you call I don't answer.

You are getting those call because no one reads the terms and conditions. Every time you attest that you have read the terms and conditions of any offer chances are you are opting into a barrage of calls and solicitations.

If you have opted out of a call and they continue, then file a complaint. It will definitely inconvenience them.

The "Do Not Call List" is a useless joke!  And not a very good joke!  I have "Reported" several numbers and those same numbers still call.  Just another scam perpetrated by the Government........

They called me yesterday - this goes on every day-. Yes, I am on the Do not call list. wasted my time doing that. But will do the same thing we do everyday, turn off the volume, and they can call all day, no one here will hear the phone ringing, we just check a couple of times a day, if it is important, and in the meantime, our friends text us.  Never gave the cell phone number to the Do Not Call list, glad we didn't or they would be calling that number.  NOTE:  a few years back my daughter got a phone from one of those telemarketers, ONLY they made the mistake of talking while waiting for the phone to be picked up, but my daughter did pick up and listened to the conversation "the telemarketers were bragging on how he made $417.oo so far that day".  WE HAVE A POLICY:  We give to CERTAIN organizations in our town or suburb, but these do not call on the phone, which includes: Police, Ambulance, School Organizations, Church, and our families - charity begins at home!

Selling home security system at "no cost to you".  Of course the cost is in the monitoring fee.

I think that those of you who think that the Do Not Call system is not working may be incorrect.  I have been keeping track of my unsolicited calls, and although I get repeat calls they are never from the number that I turn in to Do Not Call.  They just call from a new number.

This organization is trying to get into your house under the pretext of installing a "free security system". I am and have been on the "DO-NOT-CALL" list and live in California. California PUC regulations do not allow recorded calls that are not preceded with a live introduction. Why would anyone deal with a company that violates federal and state laws? These people should be stopped but the federal and state agency responsible for enforcing the law do not perform their assigned tasks.

Call blocker hangs up on them but they continue to call.

Keep getting calls to my dedicated FAX machine. A new number set up through COX Communications. I have a caller ID set up on my fax. When they call, I get only 1 ring but I do get their number. I can now block their number on my fax as a junk number. I just waste 1 sheet of paper when a new caller calls, but at least I know the number and can block it. The DoNot Call list sucks, doesn't work.
