Mr ED tried to buy a couch from me. I cant believe anyone falls for this, come on people! I would rather not make a few bucks then deal with someone who sounds so desperate. Be safe to those of you who have fallen for anything like this. remember when you sell stuff on craigslist these people could be coming to YOUR HOUSE! Dont be desperate. Be smart and safe.

    Hello,
I sent this email before but since i didn't hear from you, i guess you did not get it. I got your initial email stating that your Sofa is still available for sale. I would like to know the lowest price you would go for the Sofa.

I would have been happy to travel down for the pickup and payment of the Sofa myself, but I just relocated due to an urgent project. However, my daughter works with United State Postal Services (USPS) and we will be glad to pay with a USPS Money Order. She has also arranged with a Mover/Driver who will come for the pickup of the Sofa at your address or any public place of your choice. I'll appreciate it if you consider it sold to us via this means.

We will only come for pick up after you have received the Money Order and they have been duly processed at your Bank, only there and then will we arrange for the pick up of the Sofa. I would like to know how your name should appear on the USPS Money Order and what valid residential/office address or public place should we mail it to via UPS courier service. We are ready to make payment as soon as we get your mailing details. Pls signify clearly if the Sofa is no more available so we don't waste time with endless discussions. Thanks for selling it to us via this medium.

The last two weeks I have spent trying to stay connected to this guy becuase I thought he was local and buying my couches, turns out hes lives on the other side of the US and gave me the same information. Very precise info on how to write out the money orders and what not. My Fiance and I thought it was fishy that he'd pay 1800 dollars to ship two crap 50 dollars worth couches soi googled his email address and found this! Thank god!! thisis the information he used on me his email address: eddy00eddy@aol.com and phone number:  1580-540-7359. his email said something like this:

    Hello,
Payment for the Couch (Money Order) has been sent to you and will be delivered today. As soon as you receive the package, I would like you to follow the payment process accordingly so we can schedule a pick-up over the weekend.

===HOW TO FILL THE MONEY ORDER===
The Money Order has 2 sections
The 1st section {writes pay to}.....in this space you are to fill in your full names and address.
The 2nd section {writes from}.....in this space you are to fill in my name and address:

    Name: Eduardo Moreno
Addy: 1901 N Walnut Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73105

The package contains 2 pieces of $950 M/O. After filling the M/O's carefully, you take them to your bank and get them cashed. You then deduct the exact amount for your Couch, plus $50 inconvenience/transportation fee, you then go to the closest Western Union outlet to you and send the remaining funds to the Driver/Mover via Western Union who would be coming to your location or public place for the pick up of the Couch after receiving the funds.

In summary, you deduct the amount for your Couch + $50 + Western Union charges and send the rest to the Driver. Here are the details of the Driver/Mover who you will be sending the funds to:

    Jerry Freedle
    Addy: 3521 County Street
    City: Cement
    State: Oklahoma
    Zip: 73017

After sending the Funds to him via western union, You are to get back to me with the Western Union details below:

    1. The exact amount sent
    2. Money Transfer Control Number (10 digits MTCN)
    3. Sender's Full Name/ Address on the receipt

Jerry will be coming with a mover to help him with the moving of the Couch to the truck so you need not bother yourself. I would be awaiting the Western Union details for the Driver so we can fix a pick-up date this weekend. Thanks

DON'T YOU GUYS GET IT?  This is not ONE PERSON sending all of these emails.  It is obviously a group of people, or more likely, similar to chain mail.  Looking online, this is happening on all types of sites with all types of emails from Northern California to Michigan, for cars to couches, and more.

I posted a couch on detroit metro craigslist, Oakland County area.

I was first suspicious when the email address showed up different on my mobile email compared to my screen on my PC.   one was grauster@lsu.edu, one was eddy66eddy@something, now this one is from roderick@uri.edu.  It almost sounds like they are using old disposed email addresses, because I think that some of these "domain" names belong to universities (possibly another federal charge if they are public universities, to add to their sentences for being complete idiots)

This is the email I got after responding that the couch was still available a few days ago:

    caller:  Mr Ed

Thank god for this website! I just received my money orders and have been skeptical since his first overly formal email to me about my bed. The emails I have received are completely identical to the ones a lot of you have! I see that he has a lot of names, I was given the name Mr. Eduarda Moreno. Thanks for posting everyone! You really saved me a lot of time and hassle!

P.S. what should I do with these money orders that he sent me?

The money you sent him is gone.  You will never get it back.

The money orders are fake.  The place where you cashed them will go after you to get the money back.  Contact them.  If you pay them back before the checks bounce maybe they will let you skip paying the bounced check fee.

The type of check is irrelevant though it's generally a cashier's check because banks are required to make the money available to you immediately for cashier's checks, not necessarily so for personal checks. This is a version of fake-check-for-Western-Union-money scam, sometimes dressed up as a job offer or an overpayment for something you're selling or for your services/work. What's important to the scammer is you cash the check and wire the cash back to him or to his accomplice, everything else in the scheme is just window dressing. The check he sends you is fake but it takes a few days after depositing it in your bank account to find out it's fake. The money you Western Union him is your own money you've withdrawn from your own account, the wiring process only takes short hours and the money irretrievable and untraceable. Owing to the difference in processing times, the scammers will have your real money in hand before your bank learns their check is bad. You'll lose the money you send them and may be prosecuted for passing a bad check. Your bank will refuse to absorb the loss as it was a result of your actions, not the bank's. You are effectively acting in the capacity of a bank for the scammer in exchanging your own money for his bad check. It's a scam.

    Mr. Eduardo Moreno
I received two money orders totally $1900. The FedEx envelope came today. His email giving the instructions of how much the money orders would be also came today. I asked for $50 for a ratty old couch. That is just ridiculous. I didn't even bother to check if they were real I was going to send them right back but then looked up the name and here it is! Will the cops really do anything or should I just keep these fake money orders as a reminder of how messed up people are?

Same exact scam as above posts, received exact same emails, etc. The scammer sent me the money orders AFTER I informed him I would no longer be selling the couch to him, which I thought was very strange. I took them to my bank and they told me they were almost 100% sure the money orders were fraudulent and then hung onto them for further investigation. This guy is such a jerk!
