A reliable source reminds me that "Prefix 214 is not valid for Rhode Island area code 401". Right away we know we're dealing with some cowardly fraud shop without the decency to at least pretend anyone can return its illegal calls. They have evidently made a sweep of the region today. Within 5.5 hours, three of the RI numbers I control were dialed and abandoned. The CNAM was alternately "Announcement" or "spam? Announcem". The receiving carrier can't catch them all. This little deception may be intended to make us believe there is no sales purpose, but the FTC would never agree.

I've seen this same behavior on 16 and 19 July when a similar invalid number played hit-and-run with three of my phone lines, not all the same ones targeted today. Useful intel began appearing on 20 July, indicating an effort to pose as local power supplier National Grid and/or slam the power bill.

I'm recently getting other calls like this which abuse Connecticut numbers. They begin with a canned female teasing the recipient with a vague "rate reduction" offer. Those I've answered lead to the same noisy call center full of marble-mouthed Indians who insist that they're calling on behalf of a National Grid power supplier. They become impatient and dump me when I ask too many reasonable questions about their true business name and what specific "notice" of "rate reduction" the canned lady means.

Obviously violations abound of the Telemarketing Sales Rule and Telephone Consumer Protection Act, but as is often the case the creeps are doing a good job of hiding themselves to frustrate my desire to win a whole year's salary from TCPA claims.

hallelujah.... sing it brother, sing it.... everything you said, same here, the bs number spoofing, the blatant violations of "do not call" and tcpa, and the inability to even go after these scumbags because they're hiding with the help of easily and cheaply employed technology... maybe it's time for the Feds to spend a dollar on some counter-technology that either won't allow spoofed number calls to go through, or log them and go after these companies wherever they are, whether they originate inside US, or from India or werever else

have gotten several calls on both my home phone and my pre-paid cell (that costs me money to answer every call) over the last few weeks from there scumbag scammers... claiming to offer significant discounts off electric bill... answered and pressed zero to "talk to a representative" one time.... the guy said he wanted to verify he had correct account, and then said my correct name and phone number and asked if that was right (of course I just asked him who the hell are you and why are you calling this phone) ... kind of bothersome since my national grid account is in my wifes name, and my cell phone number is not associated with it in any way... my cell phone itself isn't even associated with my name... whomever these people are, thay are operating on a different level than most of your run of the mill telemarketing clowns

Called 650pm yesterday. I didn't answer. I was napping, but wouldn't have even if I was awake. This is obviously yet another of the 401 area code spam calls that has been going on this past week. I see other people have been getting them too.

Well, thanks, folks... they called me last night and I'm glad I didn't answer.   Wish I could auto-block these idiots, but still on a dino-phone.

They called again today, and this time left a silent voicemail. Creepy but probably just a result of a laggy auto dialer.
