How did you notify them?  If it was a verbal notification, that carries no weight with them, they will simply say they never got one.  You need to send them a cease and desist letter by certified, return receipt mail.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt.  It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

5 calls so far, today. They don't leave a message. I received a call about 4 months ago from a VA number, so I answered it, because I have a lot of friends in the VA area. The debt was apparently for my ex husband, whom I've been divorced from for over 13 years. They said I was still responsible for the debt. I laughed and said "here's his current wife's number"... Then I gave them the number they called me from. CAN YOU SAY STUPID? Haha I love that story.

13 years?  That debt is probably past the statute of limitations in most states:  Statute of Limitations by state:  http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/statut ... hart-29941.html

Called this number back and the prerecorded message states it is credit one bank. I do have a card with them. Credit one Bank continues to call from MULTIPLE numbers from all over the country. It's always someone who can barely speak English and it is very difficult to understand them.
