Just got an unidentified hanger-upper, attributed elsewhere to be a debt collector. No message was left, called back and it was "West Asset Management" - they refused to say why they had called repeatedly in the early evenings, filing complaint with the FCC.

I cannot possibly overstate the value of a good call blocker box. I just happened to take a peek at the memory in mine, and noticed that  West Asset Management has become a "regular" caller. Now I'll have to pay attention to see how many more times these idiots call before thy catch on. My bet is a great long while.

Ah-ha! I looked up their Legal Affairs number and gave it a ringy-dingy. At first it was the same "we do not harass" people, we are a good upstanding company, but when I mentioned the $2.8 million settlement they had paid for similar tactics he calmed right down. Turns out that I have a name along the lines of "John Smith" and the last 4 of my SSN was not even close to the one that he had. Apparently an old education loan from someone else. Had they been more up front at the outset this would not have been so difficult. It must really suck to be such an incompetent predator.
