Craigslist scammer. Wanted to buy snowmobile with a Florida number. I went along with it to get more info knowing it was most likely a scam and to get information for everyone else. Their email and home address they sent was:
    samanthanmerrit@gmail.com
    1719 W ST APT D6
    Vancouver,Washington 98661
Also said he would be surprising their brother with the snowmobile that lives in Alabama because ( too bad we all know how much snow they dont get in the south)
phone number is registered to a Rashid Wooten.
hope this helps someone from making a mistake.

I was contacted by "Carol Dixon" in response to a Craigslist post about an item I was selling. She provided me a text number through which we had a brief exchange. In that exchange, Carol wanted my full name and address so that she could send a check for the item. She would then arrange for pick up once I deposited the check.

The exchange I had was similar to an exchange that I had with a 2nd person--"Rhonda Nolan." But Rhonda asked for my PayPal address. I suspect that Carol and Rhonda are the same person or that they are working together to get full information about people.

This unwanted report is based on the number that Rhonda Nolan provided, which was 407-268-1083. That number is registered to Rashid Wooten in Orlando Florida. I'm not sure if Rashid is the person behind this scam or whether Rhonda simply is simply sending out his number.

Here is the exchange with Rhonda:

RN: Hi, I'm very interested & would like to know the present condition Thanks
ME: Hi. They are in good condition for antiques. They are very solid. Would you like to see them?

RN: my schedule tends to be a little crazy and I'll be flying back & forth, i won't able to deal in person just trying to surprise someone close to me with this purchase and there's a mover that will be coming for the pickup after the payment has been made and cleared. so what's your PayPal email address ?

ME: What is your email address and phone number?
    RN: rhondanolan9@gmail.com..    +14072681083

Everyone thinks these people want information.  What they want is money.  These are probably two very different people running the same scam.  Crooks share successful scams with each other.  In either case, this is what happens:

    Craigslist, Kiiji, AutoTrader, Etc. Scam:

The scam works like this.  Communication is always by text or email for some made up reason such as they are deaf, they deployed and can't use their phone (then how did the text get out?), etc.  They think your item as described is perfect.  They might ask a few questions about it, and then will pay your asking price, sight unseen, because they are never around close by to come look at it (they use the stationed somewhere in the military a whole lot, or working overseas, or on an oil rig in the middle of the ocean, or simply fill in your own job here).  They will give you an extra $40 or $50 to hold it for them.  Then they tell you they will send a cashier’s check or money order for that amount plus extra for the “shipper”.  They count on the fact that people don’t know or realize that the funds being made available by the bank and the check actually clearing are two completely different things.  They ask you to wire that extra money by untraceable means such as Western Union or Moneygram.  The check or money order turns out to be bogus and you end up out the money you sent plus the bank fees.  Also, if the check is big enough you may end up being charged criminally.  Take the check and the envelope it came in to the post office and have them forward it to the postal inspectors.
In the case of them using PayPal, the same thing happens.  They send a fake email looking like it came from PayPal, get you to pay the shipper, and then find out that the e mail was fake and no money is available.

This person wanted to buy my sofa off of Craigslist.  After we confirmed that the sofa is in good condition (via text), I get a long text message with errors and the person says, "...ok, Jennifer, my schedule tends to be a little crazy and I'll be flying back & forth, i won't able to deal in person, so cash is not an option for me...but i have a Mover that will be coming for pickup...hq is in China with movers all over the states and will deliver to my brother..."

I think the person is suspicious and ask for a name again. Person texts me stating they work for AA.  Sounds legit, until I google the number I received the text from and here I am on this site!

    Scammer.
