This number called. CID said "not in service," so I assume it was spoofed.  Seemed like a well done robo-call.  "Mike" told me I could qualify for a great new security service being installed in my area. He'd have to ask me a few questions to see if I qualify.  First, "Are you the home owner?"  I said "I have a great security system I'm happy with."  After a pause, "Mike" said "You qualify!  I'm putting you through to a specialist. Don't hang up!"  I hung up.  SCAM.

Called but didn't leave a message. The CID of "Not in Use" at least has some humor.

I answered after 5 rings, somebody or some machine said "hello" and I waited and apparently nobody was home.  May have been a machine or a human but he/it didn't respond further...

This sounds like the newest robocall scheme using a near-human "robo-response".  The "tell" is if you answer with an unanticipated response, it responses differently than a human would. In this case, if you had responded with a "yes" you probably would have been asked more questions. Or if you had responded with "no" you probably would have been asked to get the home owner.

You answered with "I have a great security system I'm happy with." If you had said, "My bucket has a hole in it," or "Bwa li kote solèy la pa klere" (Haitian Creole for "Stick it where the sun don't shine") you still would have been sent to the specialist.

I can't help but wonder if all of these calls, from many numbers, aren't somehow related to the (probable) scam being run by entrepreneur Mike Melton and SecurityAlarmNow.com on TV (1-888-292-4750). Illegal telemarketing calls are a standard in the telemarketer/entrepreneur toolbox.

He's touting home security systems in TV ads designed to look like professional, third-party interviews. The ads always run during either the noon or evening news which is probably designed to attach a certain amount of credibility to them. He is introduced a an "expert" on home security but a search reveals no background in anything resembling home security. His expertise is in call center management (i.e. telemarketing), sales, and marketing. His runs a telemarketing business involving his Dish Network dealership and ADT Security dealership.

If you are among the first 20 to call (noon, evening, multiple stations, day after day, week after week, month after month) you get a $100 gift card. The cost to sign up for the ADT service is $99. Interestingly enough, ADT doesn't currently charge anything to sign up. Therefore he makes $99 for each sucker. He also neglects to mention that it is his own people who do the installing and who service the system for the first 90-days. There is no mention of  the cost of equipment and therein lies the basis of most of the complaints about his company. Apparently he is installing equipment at his own prices, not those of ADT.

Just got a call a few minutes ago, so they're still using the number. Let it go to voicemail (they didn't leave a message, of course), then blocked the number. Not too clever of them to spoof an unused number and leave it marked Not In Use.

Answered the phone and no one was there at first - followed by a robocall for a loan.

Just got a call from this number and caller ID showed "Not in Use". Let it go to Voice Mail but then disconnected. Called back on my 800 number and it doesn't even connect. Reported it on FCC website.

Got a call this morning and yesterday afternoon.  Didnt answer either. Yesterday when I called back after 5pm, the voicemail claimed to be a company called Grand Incentives, business hours until 5pm, blah blah... scam!

Called me twice yesterday, but when I looked them up I saw that they were basically a scam number. They called me again today and when I answered I asked them how they got my number, which they said through a sweepstake I signed up for at the Howard County Fair. I then asked them what the purpose of the call was, and they told me I was randomly selected to BUY some vacation package. When I asked them to send something in the mail they told that ahy sales had to be made over the phone.

This phone number WON'T STOP calling me! I'm going to have to get Verizon to block the number. The call history only goes 3 months back but I shouldn't have even let it go this far. Before it was a girl who called claiming I won a vacation package for $200 but I had to pay for it up front? I told her I'm not interested and didn't get a call for awhile. Now it won't stop. They called on 7/30 at 2:23pm and 7:34pm. Both missed. Again on 8/18 at 12:23pm and 8/26 at 5:53pm. Missed again. I answered on 8/27. The guy said the same thing - I won a vacation package. I told the guy I wasn't interested at least 4 times and he kept going and going until I just hung up on him. He called back the next day (8/28) at 10:15am. Missed. And again at 3:18pm where I ignored the call. Called again on 8/31 at 9:18am. Missed. And just now 9/11 at 11:20am.
