- anonymous| 1 replyGot a call twice today at my workplace from this number. Says the man's name is Jack Parker and he has a thick "Indian" accent. He is very abusive and keeps saying that it's a legal matter that I need to call him and if I don't call him God Help me but if I do call him he can help me. I don't have any associations with him and have NO idea what he is talking about. He is hard to understand and keeps threatening legal action when I have no involvement with illegal activities at all. He also called my work number, but not my home number, so something is weird. I am suspicious that this is just a scam which is why I am reporting it.
- Kelly PetersonI am continually getting a phone call at work from this number. It is always a man with a very heavy indian accent to the point that I can not understand a word he is saying at most times. First, they claimed that they were a investigation office and that I had a debt from back in 2004. They kept changing the amount for me to send them to keep their file open. They state that it is for a pay day loan off the internet. After I did some research on my own I came to the conclusion that it was impossible. I have not had a checking account since 2003 and that is the only way a pay day loan can transfer money to you. They refused to sent me any paperwork on the matter telling me what this was for, but claim that if I did not pay an extravogant amount that I would be arrested. I talked to a bank, the police department, and a lawyer. They all said that if you request information on the case they have to give it to you especially if they are going as far as claiming to file charges and arrest you. The police department says that technically they would not arrest me on this matter. It would have to go to court before that would even happen. I have a clean record, I have never been arrested on any illegal actions in my life. The president of my company called this phone number as well and he said that they were quite short with him and rude and stated that I signed a paper saying that my company was liable for this matter, but refused to even send them anything verifying that account. My company as well as myself have made the authorities aware of the situation and are reporting this phone number and this apparent company.
I am a genuine person that has never been convicted or been a part of a crime. These people scared me because I had no idea what it was about and I am a single mom. The first thing that goes through my head is my kids.
Whenever I did call them back they answered the phone "Hello". No company name or anything. Even when I stated not to call my work they ignored it. They refused to call me at home and continued to call me at work. This is not a collector's actions or a legal person's actions. Technically, they are not suppose to call you at work when you state to talk about the matter outside of work.- Caller: They would not state their name.
- Hamilton, VAGot a call today from the same number, same heavy Indian accent. Threatend to take legal action against me at my workplace and wanted to know my relationship with another person. Told me this person is under crimminal investigation and they need to know my relationship with this person. When I said I was not going to answer his questions without legal representation and that he has to identify himself first, he hung up on me. What he didn't realize is that my work voice mail is virtual and recorded and may be used as evidence in a court of law. I want to report this company. Something is not right and when I read these other two emails stating the same thing happened to them, I know something is terribly wrong.
- SoWhat| 2 repliesYes, they say you will go to jail, threaten legal action but that they cannot do anything. I suspect that they have been given or bought old debts so they think they can collect on them. Do not, I repeat, do not give them any personal info, do not let them convince you that they can take you to court, how can they if they are out of the US. File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, www.ftc.gov. File a complaint with your state attorney general also. These idiots are scammers and jokers, users and losers. They also give the # 602-354-9190.
I call and harass them, give them a dose of their own medicine, who they gonna report it to...lol. - UpsetI received a call today from this number on my personal cell phone. The caller ID indicated "unavailable" and the message that was left was just like the ones listed above in this post. If this company was calling on a legitimate debt, they need to leave identifying information. This is a scam. I'm upset at how they found my personal cell phone number.
- Carolina GI, too, received several phone calls from this man who identified himself as "Paul Wilson" with a very thick and heavy INDIAN accent. He said that I was being sued and needed my personal information. I said no and hung up on him. I knew that it was not legitimate because if it was, he wouldn't have to ask me that - besides I don't owe anybody any money besides my brother who let me borrow $20 last week! After entering his phone number on the Internet and finding this website I knew it was some kind of scam. He called me again five times after the first time I hung up on him (this was before I found this website) and with each call he continued to scream and yell at me not to ignore him. Click. Don't let this guy scare or get to you - he's just a bully trying to scam you!
- KayeGot a call from this number today, very thick accent could not understand what he was saying most of the time. Threatened my husband with jail time(My husabnd is in Iraq in the military) and told me to borrow someones credit card by 4:00 today to send them money. Not sure what his name was but he tried to tell me that he was from financial crimes divison and that if I paid him the money today they would keep they case out of court. This has got to be a scam but what scares me is that he has my husband SS#. Do not give these people any mooney, by law if someone is trying to collect a debt they have to first state that, then they have to under the law give you written info and this company would not.
- Caller: US National Bank-Financial Crimes
- ROSAI to got a call from this man saying he was "OFFICER Williams" BAD INDIAN Acent. SAID I HAD A CREDIT CARD DEBT. I HAVE ABSOLUTLEY NO CREDIT CARD ON MY CREDIT REPORT . HOW DO YOU STOP THIS ? ITS CAUSING ME AND MY HUSBAND PROBLEMS !!
- nascarfan48 replies to anonymousi got a threatening phone call too from this number who are they?
- Betts| 2 repliesI received numerous phone calls from this man with a very thick "Indian" accent. He has been calling my workplace at least five times a day and leaving threatening messages. The messages indicated that It was a legal matter. "legal action" is what he said. He said it was over some pay day loan that was never payed off since 2001. Right there I knew it was a scam. When I implied that you have no paperwork to back this allegation they claimed that they will have a police officer come to my house or my workplace before 11:00am with some paperwork. It was a scam. It never happened. He would always say "God help me" after every sentence. These people really scared me when I got the phone call. This man referred himself as David Marshall. When does this stop? How do we stop these people from calling our work place and cell phones?
- Lee replies to Betts| 1 replyI have spoken to the same caller. He has a strong Indian accent and says his name is Mr. Marshall and its about a Payday Loan. When I said I never heard of him and what was the company name he got very nasty and threatened to call my employer and have me arrested. I wish there was someone who could help us. This is nuts. I am not allowed personal calls at work and I could get fired because of him.
- ec replies to LeeIt's a scam that uses lots of official-sounding names. The most important thing to remember is that all their threats are false and illegal.
The Attorney General of West Virginia recently issued a press release warning consumers about this scam: http://www.wvago.gov/internetloanscam.cfm (To my knowledge, this is the first time a state attorney general has issued a public warning about these crooks.)
And ABC News just did a report on this scam. Here's the link to the report: http://abcnews.go.com/Business/story?id=5621205&page=1
Here's some background. This is a very active group of scammers, many of whom are calling from India (and maybe other countries) and are in cahoots with a group of American debt collection scammers. They attempt to extort money from consumers with a myriad of false and illegal threats, and alternately pose as debt collectors, federal and state law enforcement officers, lawyers and bankers. Their trademark is to use meaningless legalese gobbylgook phrases like "We are downloading warrants against you" or "We are filing an affidavit against you." Another trademark phrase is to threaten the consumer with something like this ridiculous phrase: "If you don't pay then only God can help you."
Typical of many financial scams of this variety, they usually demand payment via Western Union or MoneyGram or credit card. They use any number of phony names such as US National Bank, Federal Investigation Bureau, US Legal Investigation Bureau, Hopkins Law Office, Sonic Bank, United Legal Processing, Morgan Associates, United Pay Services, National Processing, White Collar Crime Unit and many more. These criminals also use many phone numbers from many area codes; they're probably using caller-id spoofing software and/or VoIP to disguise their real location.
The main thing to remember is that anytime someone calls you demanding money to prevent your arrest, or demanding your lawyer's name so they can sue you, it is ALWAYS a scam. No debt collector (let alone criminals posing as debt collectors) has the authority to have anyone arrested for anything. (And it's illegal to them to threaten such a thing.) And since these foreign dirtbags routinely impersonate law enforcement, it's also important to remember that American law enforcement officers aren't in the business of debt collection. (Debt is a civil, not a criminal, matter.)
The bottom line is, these are criminals trying to steal your money.
A consumer posting a complaint about these same scammers at https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-718-831-7157 notes that 718-831-7157 is associated with an India-based "outsourcing" telephone bank. Though a reverse search on WhitePages.com shows that 718-831-7157 is an unlisted land line in New York City, information on Debtbuyers.Com shows that that number is used by India-based Intellisourze. (Source: http://www.debtbuyers.com/debtbuyers.asp ) My guess is that it's a VoIP phone number.
This is another piece of the puzzle that fits in perfectly with other information about this scam. There are some reports on 800Notes that have suggested that the crooks behind this offshore scam are also the crooks behind the notorious Bass/Ellis Crosby & Assoc./States Predisposition scams in Florida and Georgia. The interesting thing is that the number of complaints on here about the US National Bank/US Legal Investigation/Federal Investigation scam skyrocketed *after* April 7, 2008 when Florida obtained a $1.3 million judgment against Ted Ellis Crosby, shutdown his operations and barred him from ever conducting debt collections in Florida (http://myfloridalegal.com/newsrel.nsf/newsrel ... 5257424005858A6 ) There's certainly a good chance that the crooks placing these calls from India are doing so on behalf of the American crooks behind the Crosby/Bass/States Predisposition scams.

Though scam calls from these crooks have been going on long before May 8, the frequency of complaints about these calls increased considerably after Crosby was shut down in early April.
This is conjecture, but appearances suggest that Crosby and company were originally running a two-pronged payday loan scam operation -- with some calls being made from Jacksonville, Florida and other calls being made from a phone bank in India (and possibly other countries); then, after the Florida Attorney General shut down the Crosby scams in Florida, the Crosby crooks transferred most of their scam efforts to the India phone bank.
If you are targeted by these criminals, be sure to report them to all the following federal and state law enforcement agencies (most of which you can do online or over the phone):
1) The U.S. Secret Service is responsible for protecting the country's financial infrastructure and payment systems from international and domestic threats. Call or write your local Secret Service field office to alert them to the details of this attempted extortion. The addresses and phone numbers for the local Secret Service field offices are listed at http://www.secretservice.gov/field_offices.shtml or in your phone book.
2) Alert the FBI at https://tips.fbi.gov Be sure to tell the FBI that you are being targeted by extortionists over the phone. And if the crooks claim to be law enforcement or lawyers, officers of the court or bankers, be sure to include that information in your report.
3) File a complaint with your local police. Most police departments will take a report over the phone. Be sure to tell them that you're being targeted by an extortionist and give them all the details.
4) File a complaint your state's attorney general, the contact information for whom is at www.naag.org
5) File a complaint online with The Federal Trade Commission at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/FTC_Wizard.aspx?Lang=en
If these crooks call back, promise them nothing, pay them nothing and tell them nothing other than that you know they're a scam and that you've reported them to law enforcement. (And be sure to report them to all the agencies above each time they call you.)
By the way, here's just a small sample of numbers used by this particular group of scammers. Read the reports and you'll see the same pattern time and again -- phony organization names, thick foreign accents, and oddly worded threats that are so melodramatic and ridiculous that it's laughable:

https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-858-244-0444 - shauntaieI received a call from this same number last week at my place of employment. He stated his name as OFFICER PAUL MARSHALL and said I had payday loan in MARCH 2005 and I owed 1,458.00. He asked me if I couldnt interupt him because we were being recorded. He asked if I had ever been arrested? He then said if I couldnt send them at least 458.00 they would have me arrested or put on probation for money laundering, check fraud, and just a whole list of things. When I asked about a payment plan he put me on hold, came back and said he spoke with the deputy and the least I could pay was 458.00 by September 26,2008. It scared me at first until I googled the number and seen all of the other post about the same company. O let me not forget when I called back they answer the phone with just a HELLO!!!!!!!!! THANKS FOR ALL THE POST!!!!!!!!
- ARB replies to SoWhat| 1 replyI RECEIVED A THREATING CALL AT MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT - HE LEFT A THREATENING MESSAGE ON THE ANSWERING SERVICE - SO I WOULD BE PICKED UP AT MY HOME OR AT MY PLACE OF BUSINESS IF I NEED NOT CALL HIM - AND SAID I THE END OF THE MESSAGE MY GOD HELP YOU - THIS PERSON SAID HE WAS PAUL WILSON - COULD NOT HARDLY UNDERSTAND WHAT HE WAS SAYING
- ec replies to ARBIt's a scam. For more information, see my message below and these reports from the West Virginia Attorney General and ABC News -- http://www.wvago.gov/internetloanscam.cfm http://abcnews.go.com/Business/story?id=5621205&page=1
- BI have received numerous phone calls from these jerks!!! Threatening me and telling me I am a fraud and if I pay them then everything will disappear. I demanded them to send me the info in the mail and they REFUSED. Luckily they have not called me from work.
They are so rude to me and honestly have had me terrified I almost gave them money but luckily people that I work told me NO MATTER what do not send them anything. Thank god I didn't. I don't want them to keep calling me though.
The man that is calling me keeps telling me his name is Andrew Johnson and i can hardly understand him. Once I start asking him questions and being rude back he then hands the phone over to his buddy. This is not OK at all and I am so upset that they are taking advantage of so many people. How do we make them stop? - Secret SquirrelFake Debt Collectors and Collection Tactics
If consumers did not have enough to worry about having to deal with rising credit card interest rates, late fees and over-limit fees, zombie debt, and fervent bill collectors, now we have to worry about collectors calling about fake debt.
While many legitimate collection agencies follow the FDCPA, there are some collectors out there that are only running a scam operation and will be quick to use threats and scare tactics to get you to pay up quick. Their scams turn up in mailboxes, on the internet and through the telephone every day. Some collectors pose as national banks, government agencies (FBI, CIA), or even popular celebrity stars to gain personal information. These phony collectors may threaten to repossess your house, issue a warrant for your arrest, or even garnish your pay check, all of which are against the FDCPA rules. Some of which are even laughable (for example, there is no debtor’s prison in the United States).
Fake debt scammers rely on the fear and lack of knowledge about debt collection laws within the population. They also figure that a certain percentage of their calls will be received by individuals who may be carrying debt on credit cards anyway and may be susceptible to intimidation. When collectors use misleading statements and fail to provide identification, they are breaking the law. Never pay money to a possible thief. Keep cool when you hear from collectors to avoid this collection abuse.
Many times, people who took out payday loans online in the past are most susceptible. If you took a payday loan, be aware scammers may have access to your Social Security number and other personal information, and keep your guard up against such tactics.
Ironically, real "deadbeats" probably wouldn't fall for these scammers, since they have no intention of repaying their creditors anyway. But upright citizens may doubt themselves, thinking they've forgotten to pay a bill. Many times, the sums involved tend to be fairly small, so some people may be tempted to just pay the "bill" and "get it over with."
Ways to Protect Yourself Against Debt Collection Scams
Review your credit report frequently to find inaccuracies.
Be aware of your current creditors and how much you owe.
Ask creditors for identification before you provide any information over the telephone.
Reporting Fake Debt Collectors
If you ever receive a call from anyone identifying himself as a debt collector, the law requires that the debt collector provide you with identification, and that the debt collector refrain from making misleading and threatening statements.
You can report any problems you have to your state Attorney General’s office www.naag.org and the Federal Trade Commission www.ftc.gov. Many states have their own debt collection laws that are different from the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Your Attorney General’s office can help you determine your rights under your state’s law.
http://www.internetautoguide.com/credit-cente ... on-tactics.html - pat k.I have gotten phone calls twice this week from this exact same number..
The caller told me that his name is SHAWN MICHAEL,{After doing some research it didn't take me long to find out that this man has been reported in the past as a fraud/scammer.)This idiot claims that i owe 720.00 for a overdue payday loan.He claims that the loan was approved,When they tried to put the money in my checking account he told me that my account has been closed.I already knew that my account had been closed (due to the loss of my job in march of 2009,)He threatens me with all kinds of legal action every time he calls me.How can somebody put money in another persons account,(Only to find out that the account has been closed..)This "BAFOON" will not be getting a dime out of me.It is obvious that this is a scam,(All of the complaints filed against this number is certain proof of this being a scam)I urge everybody out there to keep on reporting this number to your local, county, state, and any other divisions of law enforcement that you can think of.It is very important to remember (DON'T) send any money even if you are being threatened with any kind of legal action,If you do send money don't be surprised if the calls keep on coming,I am sure this may have happened to a few of you out there. - Aunt BI received a call from an Andrew Johnson and he told me if I didn't pay what I owed they would arrest me. They have called me and been very rude. I told them I knew this was a scam and they tried to say I had paid them before. I told them I don't think so and he got mad and hung up. Don't listen to them they are scam artist. Oh they started calling back 2 weeks later.
