- Cornell| 1 replythis is a scam. Officer Julie Smith calls. leaves a message. asks you to call back a number where some Indian answers and rudely tells you your license has been suspended, that you owe a debt from 2010-2011, that you cannot pay with a debit or credit card linked to a bank account, but that the only way you can pay the debt (mine was $3599), was to get cash, go visit a ghetto supermarket, use the cash to buy some Tax Pay Voucher, which would then be used with a 4 digit code on a fake IRS website. I also was forced to keep the collector on the phone while at the bank and headed to the food lion. meanwhile, we do research on this phone number. I have never had an issue with the IRS and my record is clean. He said because my record was clean, his supervisor would allow me to pay rather than be arrested I am FURIOUS. DO NOT give them any information, or your zip code.

Do consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. - Cornellnew update:
I called them back and told them "GO F*CK YOURSELF" . I then waited 10 minutes. my number still wasn't blocked. Same woman answered. I insisted on finally speaking with Julie Smith. There was a pause. Then a high-pitched fake american accent who then pulled up my number and says "ah, yes. you were going to food lion with $3500, correct?" The original payment due was $3599. I laughed at their mistake and let them know this site exists and that THEY are being reported to the IRS and laughed. Then "Julie" says, "you want to know what I have to say to that?" (voice changes back to the original Indian man voice) "GO F*CK YOURSELF". case solved. definitely a scam from 415-234-9482- Caller: Spicy Curry Int'l IRS Collections

- Washington DC Area| 1 replyGot the same call as everyone else on my answering machine twice today. Being a non-profit accountant and tax advisor in the nation's capital, having regular contact with the IRS, I am certain that the IRS does not make such calls... they communicate via US Mail only.
Good to see that none of you have been taken in by this scam and encourage everyone to report it to the IRS so they can send out a taxpayer alert to warn others.- Caller: IRS Officer Julie Smith

- RexIRS replies to Washington DC AreaThis is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.
Read http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/press/press_tigta-2014-03.htm
As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.
2) Help kill their phone lines but not by calling them back directly (the number may be spoofed and repeat calls by you may - under exceptional circumstances- amount to harassment). The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and/or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)
3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). A US task force has already been set up in Jamaica to nab scammers there (see http://www.ice.gov/doclib/news/library/reports/cornerstone/cornerstone7-1.pdf). - LL replies to JinpaHad the same 2 calls today, 11/6, from officer Smith. Returned the call, Officer Smith was not available, lady wanted to get my attorney's address because the IRS had a case filed against me.............called her on it saying I thought is was a scam and she hung up.
- babuFrom last 2 days I was getting calls from the number 4152349482 and they just giving message - If you do not call to IRS back immediately - you will be in prison. So before we take any action you need to call us @ 4152349482.
First 2 days I did not take much attention for these messages. Yesterday thought that it might be a real call from IRS, I should call.
Called back to the same number - She continuously talking about my position - what will happen. She said you haven't responded to the mails delivered to you and court has given decision on you. Decision is in another 1 hour - your door will be knocked and cops will take custody and your passport and driving license will be ceased and you will in prison for 10 years.
Then replied saying - what - what are you talking - I did not receive any mails from IRS - I used to check my mails everyday. To which address did you send?
She replied with my correct address and USPS informed to us that you have rejected the notifications which we sent and we got our mails back - due to no response from you - court has give decision on you.
Even then I said - I did not receive any documents from IRS. She still says the same stories that I will be going to Prison.
You haven't paid the 2012 tax properly and no response from you - So, Court given a decision.
I said what should I do now.....She said you have only two options....
1. Pay $8849 in another 1 hr
2. Payment shouldn't be from your Debit card or Credit Card - Since IRS do not want to receive anything directly from you - since you already missed the payment and did not respond to the IRS. So we are going to work with attorneys and resolve your problem - but remember we will try to resolve the problem but we may not give you guarantee..
3. Payment should be only through Bill Payment voucher....
After she said payment shouldn't be paid from either Debit Card or Credit card and only through Bill Payment voucher then I understand that this is a Scam and fake call.....
Then Immediately I have given Phone number to my friend to search in google - result came out with this number is face and scam.... then immediately disconnected the call.
All of you - Please don't encourage these kind of calls..... and be careful while attending calls.... register some donotcalllist.gov site that all commercial calls will be filtered.

- LesThis is absolutely a scam. I work for a CPA and we have had several clients get these calls and this morning (Saturday) I received one. I did not answer but, got the same basic message. Do not call back and or give them ANY information at all. The IRS NEVER calls people with issues, only mails notices and such. Report and then ignore.

- An AtlantanReceived call this afternoon (Nov. 8) from (415) 234-9482. Did not answer but they left message. Voice was male with Indian accent indicating we owed the IRS. We owe nothing to the IRS and have no debts. This is clearly a scam. We will not call back as they requested. A real nuisance and a totally unprofessional and amateur scammer with Indian accent..

case number 549634 they were investigating me and I had to make arrangements to pay.
I was concerned that this might be one of those numbers you would respond to and they
would keep you on the line as long as possible to 'discuss your case' and your phone bill
would be charged $1000. a minute or some such nonsense --- Caller: IRS
