Left 2 voicemail messages claiming to be with IRS and that call was time sensitive and shouldn't be ignored.  I called back from my cell phone with caller if blocked.  First 2 calls, rang twice then disconnected.  Next call, foreign guy with very strong accent, difficult to understand, verified my name when he asked my home phone #.  Said something about a lawsuit and he would give details but I was not to interrupt until he was done talking.  I told him I didn't understand him and he hung up on me.  I called back 3 times and call was disconnected.  4th time another guy answered and before I even got a word in blurted out "why do you keep calling?"  I angrily replied "because you called me first and I want to know what this is about!"  He then spurted off obscenities at me, which I yelled right back at him, then hung up.

I received a message on my phone today and after several attempts to return the call (disconnected every time)  I finally talked to a lady and she told me I owed so much money to the IRS and when I asked her if it was a scam, she said yes you idiot and hung up on me.  I get disconnected every time I try to call back.  They had very heavy accents,  Hard to understand.

The I R S can send thousands of computer-generated letters, postage-free, from a single printer, every day, so wwhy would they even TRY to leave a crappy voicemail that might not even be understandable, when at least the call would cost them money?

This has FRAUD written all over it.

There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.
USA tax payers should read this:
    http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Reiterate ... -Telephone-Scam

    Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

    Educational post:
This scam is also described as scam #11, here:
    http://phonehelp.2truth.com/facts_rev.html

Remember to return here, to 800notes.com, after you look at any of the information at that site, either to post more information, or to let us know you avoided the scam, or to read any further information about that number that others may post.

Caller left my daughter a voice mail message threatening legal action if she didn't call. So I called for her. My number has apparently been blocked because a client was receiving calls from the same number and I called for the client last week and busted them on it. Told me unless I was an Attorney that they wouldn't talk to me. Had clients terrified because they claimed to be with the IRS and said they were sending a unit over to have them arrested within 20 minutes because of all the money they owed.Would only talk to Attorneys (supposedly) not CPAs.

Caller claimed importance and urgency of the issue and the call but did not specify the subject of the call although it implied that there was something of dire importance that would affect negatively if I did not respond.  I did not return the call.  I Think the caller alluded that she was an attorney.

Got a message from this number this morning, tried to call back twice, but just rang. Message was grainy and I only got the last bit of it, but it said they were from the IRS and they were going to take legal action. I usually Google these numbers to see if their legit and here I found all of these reports.  I knew it was crap because we use a professional to do our taxes.

Called me and I returned the call, they claim to be the IRS and my taxes were calculated wrong and they wanted my lawyers name and number.  When asked them why do want my lawyers name, the lady on the other end got very rude with me and said you don't have to give me the number, but I will call the police and a warrant will be issued and you will be arrested.  Not sure, but Ibelieve that was a threat.

Got a call at 7:50am and I called back and this heavy Indian accent guy introduced himself that he is from IRS and asked me if I know of the charges pressed against me from back tax. He read me the charges, then said my driver license, banks and property will be taken away, saying threats like I will be put in jail for 5 years because of it. When I started questioning his authenticity, he got mad and said "you know what? you are wasting my time and sheriffs will be at your house within 30 mins." and then he hanged up. 2 mins later, I received a caller ID from "XXX County Sheriff" and asked me if I am home and he will arrive at my place within 30 mins. Then the first guy called me back and gave me the case number and started saying threats to me, he asked me if I know "Tax Pay Voucher" which I need to purchase at some grocery stores with Cash or bank Debit Card, he also asked me if I have RiteAid nearby and that I should go there right away and he will be on the line with me until I finish the transaction. Too many red flags and so I hanged up! Definitely, a fraud scam!!! WATCH OUT!!!

I got a message from this number this morning. Experience is almost similar to Lisa Ling. But accent is more of American accent. He did not ask me to pay anything and no call from a caller ID from "XXX County Sheriff"

I called Sharif's office and reported it. They asked me to report a claim on fbi.gov.

I just received a phone call from this number from an Indian man who said that I owe thousands of dollars in back taxes. It sounded fishy since he had no information other than my name. He also thought that I was married, which was a big red flag. I told him I would contact my tax account and he asked my accountant's name but I didn't give it to him because it wasn't relevant. I asked for my case number and he said one has not been assigned, so I knew it was fake. I called the sheriff's office and reported it, they told me there has been similar complaints this month. Don't give them your information!!

I received a call this morning that I owe thousands of dollars and if I pay them now, they will reduce the payment. They also tell you that you can avoid getting arrested by going to the back while you are on call with them without disconnecting and take cash, go to kroger and do a tax payers check.

    Report them:

Total scam coming out of India.

IRS has absolutely no authority over local police.  Local police and law enforcement are NEVER involved in tax disputes.     If law enforcement presence is needed US marshal are available.  But that is rare.
