Received recorded message from 'Julie Smith' of IRS warning of dire (but unspecified) tax consequences if I did not take the call seriously and contact her immediately.

There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

This is totally a scam. One of our retired tax clients just called to confirm with me that this was a scam.  Beware, do not call them back! It was the same exact message from 'Julie Smith' of IRS warning of dire (but unspecified) tax consequences. This had our client alarmed, just not fair! Shame on you scammers, I'm sure you are reading this!

i got the same call today, when I was on to them I called back they yelled and cussed me out. Report them at www.tigta.gov

I received two calls in the last 4 hours from this number. Same automated message from "Julie Smith" from the IRS warning to return the call before they take action against you. It is a SCAM!!!! Shame on you low life scammers!!

I've gotten this call 4-5 times today, figured it was a scam.  Some guy answered once when i called back, but he immediately hung up.

I received two calls from this number today. After receiving the second call, I came on here. I am not going to return this call because I am in no debt with anyone, and if the IRS had any issues to resolved, I would have received a letter.

I just got the same call 3 hours ago.

I found a dozen msgs from these people on my landline message machine when I returned from a vacation. Each one was my "last chance" to avoid further, serious legal action. This is a *bleeping* SCAM of the highest order. Do NOT fall for it. There is info about this on the (real) IRS website. - Worst part is that the number can NOT be "blocked" by my phone!
