- Joey| 1 replyThis number called my land line and I was able to pick up and quickly hang up. I've learned that when Caller ID reads "Out of area" they're scammers and hackers. I called the number from my cell phone and rec'd a very robotic sounding recording "All circuits are busy...please try your call again later. Announcement 8 switch 112 dash 6". It's blocked now! Don't waste your time with these scammers.

- Joseph replies to annoyedYeah, these scammers are just plain criminals looking for easy prey, and unfortunately phone companies don't want to do nothing about it as they used to in the old days. They used to really investigate and sometimes prosecute these actors. But now phone companies don't because they paid off FCC which in turn relaxed bunch of rules, so in my opinion phone companies are as criminally responsible too. There's also option of filing complaint to CPUC (in California at least), but with relaxed laws this doesn't go very far either.
This is the reason I never, never pick up a phone form unrecognized number. Let it go to VM, and just keep blocking. These bad actors jut spoof a telephone number, which nowadays is childlishly easy to do, that's why one can't even call them back. Thank you all paid off politicians. - Busymommie replies to JoeyThe worst thing you can do is answer the phone at all. Now you have given the caller confirmation that your phone number is a working line. If you have caller ID and you don't recognize the number, don't answer at all. If it's important, the caller will leave a message.
