There are numerous telephone and email scams in which individuals claim to be employees of the Treasury Department. These scammers often state that they are from the “Department of Legal Affairs,” offer grant money in exchange for you wiring a small payment, or threaten to arrest you within a short period of time unless payment is made. Do not provide personal information or payment to these individuals.  Their actions are crimes under Titles 18 and 31 of the United States Code, and the Treasury Office of Inspector General is working to stop them.

If they claim to be from Treasury, report  it to OIGCounsel@oig.treas.gov with a description.  If it was a phone contact, include:
the exact date and time that you received the call(s)
the phone number of the caller
the geographic location and time zone where you received the call
    a description of the communication.

If they claim to be from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or it is about taxes, report it to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at:

Someone claiming to be from the I.R.S using a very weird text to speech software called my number. Asking for either me or my attorney to call them back before they take action against me. Scammers really need to be stopped already, this is ridiculous.

Autobot call from "agent Becky Johnson" telling me she was with the Internal Revenue Service and needed to contact them immediately before any action was taken against me. Caller ID said Mill Valley, CA and I was reading an article explicitly saying the IRS does not call when I received the call. Filed a complaint with the do not call registry, if you receive this call do the same. You do not have to be on the list to report autobot or recorded calls. THEY ARE ILLEGAL!

    scam IRS call
I got the call yesterday on my recorder. This is the exact message in a terrible slow robot female voice: "Revenue Service - the very second you receive this message I need you or your retained attorney of record to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely time sensitive I am officer Nicki Johnson from Internal Revenue Service and the hotline to my position __________ (she didn't say what position) 415-322-5118; I repeat 415-322-5118; Don't disregard this message and do return the call before we take any action against you. Goodbye and take care." This was the lamest message yet. (shorthand comes in handy).
