- CWG40 replies to MichelleDo not call them back. Don't talk to them and block their calls. These are hard core scammer/extortionists located in either India or Pakistan. You talk to them an d they will become abusive. They have your financial information and personal information. The pick on women, single mothers, the elderly and members of the Immigrant community.
They try to scare people they call with a lot of threatening legal mumbo-jumbo.
Some things to remember:
Total scam run out of India. First off, the IRS does not file lawsuits. If there is a need for court action, the IRS makes a request to the DOJ which makes the final decision whether or not to go to court-- usually to enforce a collection action of some kind or another. See: http://www.irs.gov/irm/part5/irm_05-017-004.html
But this only happens after a long period of administrative negotiations with the taxpayer. Before any court case would happen, the taxpayer would be well aware of it. IRS is never going to cold-call you and tell you that a case is being filed against you out of the clear blue sky.
IRS has absolutely no authority over local police. Local police and law enforcement are NEVER involved in tax disputes. If law enforcement presence is needed US marshal are available. Almost all tax disputes are civil matters.
Secondly, over 90 percent of all tax disputes are settled administratively during an appeals process.
This is just a scam where somebody cold-calls, pretends to be IRS and tries to scare you into paying money to somebody by Green dot money pak which is untraceable.
Ignore the call and do not return it. Block the number.
See: http://www.irs.gov/uac/Newsroom/IRS-Reiterate ... -Telephone-Scam - CWG40 replies to DianaDon't call them back! Never return their calls. Block them. This is a total scam being run out of India. Or Pakistan
- Bug replies to MillerOf course the government works on weekends! Some agencies have operations working 24 hours a day, all week! - law enforcement, orphanages, jails and prisons, hospitals, probation and parole monitoring, road building and maintenance, fire departments, facilities' physical plants, ... The IRS might not have much going on on the weekend, but 'the government' is working all the time.

- PhilMy daughter received several phone calls from some one saying she was Julie Smith from the IRS and to return call immediately to avoid further action. I advised her that IRS would contact her via U.S. Mail if there was a problem concerning her taxes and explain in detail. They don't phone. Advised it was a scam and don't reply. Fortunately she called me before giving out any personal information.

- Caller: 415-506-2394
- anonymous| 1 replyJust received the message claiming to be IRS, BUT IT WAS A RECORDING not a live person and they left no instructions. We called back # and mailbox full. Obviously not the IRS. But can they do anything with just calling the # back?
- Tamianth replies to anonymousI would hazard a guess and say they may think aha! we got a sucker and call you more if they see your caller id! Your best bet is to never call number back that you don't recognize. Your best bet is a call blocker to stop the calls though. Consider maybe getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
