- ChanSame deal as everyone else but this guy swore and said "just wait to see what happens to you" when we questioned why he was calling. We called back and got the same guy with a thick accent. Had fun with him, Scum! Number was 415-506-2414.
- JLBI received a call from the number 415-506-2414 from someone saying his name is Chris Walker claiming to be from the department of treasury saying I owe money and that I needed to give him information or I would be locked up. I refused to give any information and after hanging up on him contacted my local tax office and she confirmed it to be a scam as the IRS will not contact you by phone so I looked into this more and found out where to go to report this and I wanted to share the information with all of you.
It can be reported to the Treasury inspector general for tax administration at www.tigta.gov
and also to the federal trade commission at FTC.gov - rachel replies to CGot the same message on voicemail yesterday. Answered the call today. Heavy accent.
- Almost scammed| 1 replyA chain of events made this believable and I was almost swindled a few thousand.
1. My father got the call. He woke me to take this important call. This established trust compared to if I had gotten the call myself.
2. The area code is local to me. More trust.
3. I did need to supply additional info to IRS back in 2009, matching the amount and year the scammer said that I owe
4. Threat of immediate arrest if call disconnects, and later "emergency number" calling in seems to confirm law enforcement was onto me.
5. Their claim to remove arrest warrant was appealing for someone who never ran into trouble with the law. (And of course don't know what or what doesn't get you arrested)
6. Their claim that I can't disclose this to anyone else matched my desire of confidentiality.
7. They don't ask you for credit card, the usual scamming method, but this 'Reloadit' card.
8. I bought the card and charged the money in. They want me to scratch the card for a verification number. At that point I became suspicious if that indicates a payment. - Christy| 2 repliesJust got done speaking to a person who claimed to be calling from the Us Treasury Department of Legal Affairs saying that they mailed a letter to me (which I did not receive) with information to "prove" a charge against me has been filed and that Law enforcement will be coming to my door to take me to jail if I "ignore" the message. Of course, I didn't get the letter so I asked the representative to tell me the details of their claim. He could not provide me with this information and when I pressed him, he just said to call this number (which is the same number he called me from) to find out more information. I continued to press him claiming that he should know the details of their allegations as I have nothing outstanding with the IRS that hasn't been paid. He kept telling me to call the number and "speak to an officer" or if I ignore his request, he said I will get arrested. I kept telling him to provide me with the details of their charge against me and finally he hung up on me. CRAZY!

- Christy replies to Christy| 1 replyI forgot to add that this guy did have a thick Indian accent like the other posts said. I can't remember his name, but he did correctly tell me my address which is scary. I wonder how these guys are getting this information since our number is unlisted "blocked".
- Mike-in-MD replies to ChristyHave you given out this number as a contact to a business or other organization? If so, have you had occasion to call their customer service numbers? Do the agents sound like they are in a foreign country? If so, they likely obtained your information by stealing it from the overseas call center the business or organization you provided your contact information to hired. Many of these scammers work in overseas call centers that US businesses and organizations have outsourced to and steal lists of customer information to use in contacting potential targets of their scams.

IRS does not file lawsuits. Court action, if any is handled by the DOJ and all parties are entitled to legal assistance if it is a criminal matter. But--tax disputes are for the most part civil matters. 90% of all IRS tax disputes are settled administratively. IRS has absolutely no authority to call on local law enforcement for anything. Local law is never involved in IRS tax disputes. IRS has no powers of arrest. If LE is necessary, US Marshals do the job. IRS does not cold call anyone and ask for money. IRS does not accept Green card money paks for payment in any case. No one is prosecuted for ordinary tax disputes. IRS has absolutely no authority over anyone's professional license. Professional licensing is handled by state governments. Yes, levies on property to satisfy an existing tax obligation do occur, but only after a very long period of negotiation. And yes, liens are placed on individuals but usually after a lot of negotiation and a failure to reach a settlement. All determinations of tax liability are subject to appeals. All contacts by the IRS are initiated by US mail.
Never wire money or give account numbers to anyone you do not personally know. Especially if they cold call you and immediately demand payment. - KathyScam
