Called my cell phone; recorded voice said "This is an important message from the IRS. Contact us immediately before we take action."

I received a call with a messave fromnthis number saying to call them or face action by the IRS.  Ibviously a scam.

Scammer!

Call came posing as the IRS from California on my home #. The IRS does not call you-go figure.

Got the message. A woman with a strong Spanish accent informed me that I was being sued by the IRS because I had made an error on my tax refund. When I said "This has got to be a scam, the IRS always send notices in the mail when there's an error." The woman angrily replied "Shut your mouth!" I hung up before I could hear anything more she had to say.

There are some really nasty people out there.

I just received a call from my cell phone no. And left a message to call back this is the IRS calling and for me to call back right away before they would take legal action. I called back and it was a strong Indian accent who answered and told me I owe such a big amount and that IRS will seize my assets from the bank and I will go to jail serving 5 years. This is ridiculous.

There is a widespread IRS or "tax scam" being  practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

Recorded message from "Officer Julie Smith" from the IRS. SCAM.

Scam...same as the others, the IRS calling and for me to call back right away before they would take legal action.

I just received the same call. My experience(though limited) is that IRS contacts by official notice(mail) and you call them. I just put in a complaint on the link provided from above link. Thanks for that.

I received a call early this morning, by a person who has a heavy Indian accent and stated, I have been Audited by IRS, and I will go for jail , and revoked my licence, when I question that, she said " don't u speak English" very Rude and aggressive

I received a voicemail message from this number stating do not ignore this call. It is an important message from IRS. Return the call asap before IRS takes action. Definitely a scam.
