    What to do?
I am receiving calls purportedly from bell molbilty, directing me to call 1-800-811-8430. The calls have been traced to 416-774-8430.This is obviously a fraud. But what to do?

In Ontario, other than student loans, they have 2 years to collect a debt from the last time you made a payment or used your credit card. If you cannot pay, don't !! If they harass you by phone, change your number. If they call you at work, tell them to stop (they have to!). See a credit counseling service, if you need to discuss options. Don't made agreements with collection agencies! It is business to them, they are NOT working in your best interest ever! Don't let shame or guilt come into this. Few people go into debt with no intention to pay. Pay your rent, feed yourself, work as much as you can... the collectors can go and... themselves.

The calls are for someone who moved out almost 2 yrs ago. I repeatedly  informed them that this person is no longer under this phone number and please stop calling but that falls on def ears. I have no idea who to complain to. I am so tired of getting these calls at all times of day. If anyone knows how to make them stop harassing me please let me know. I do not owe anybody anything so why are they bothering me? Is it not enough to tell them that this person cannot be reached under my phone number?

$205.38 from a bell bill from Oct.08. I dumped Bell + returned receiver as well. Problem cleared with Bell Jan -09. Total Debt recovery still calling from yorkplan blvd Toronto. Unbelievable. Supposed Bell rep came to my home to reinstate me. Also said they can call me after 3 years + 30 days.? Thank God I have nothing to do with Bell for the rest of my life.
HEY, SHOULD WE PLAN A RALLY WITH PROTEST SIGNS AT TOTAL DEBT RECOVERY YORKPLAN BLVD TORONTO THIS SPRING? There is strength in numbers. Let's let the public see what Bell is really up to! I already talked to a paper. Next would be a local TV station on rally day. Let me know people.

Pretty sure it's 6 years from date of last activity.

**Here's one for the books - had a woman call me from there the other day and tell me they have a debt from 1998 in Ont and because last activity was in 2012 in Ont - they have another 6 years to harass me LOL
I told her I haven't lived in the province of Ont for 13 years so "any" activity is someone else and please call the police and  report the fraud.
Also claimed it was on my Equifax - and it is NOT! Was never on there to begin with. [equifax confirmed]

*** Business must be so bad that they had drudged up debt from god knows where and think they can collect on unsuspecting comsumers with threats of - nothing short of harassment - after this long   LOL - Guess they lost their Handbooks...Maybe I should call the cops on them harassment and fraud ;) hmmm, now there;s a table turned!

Did you know...if you phone equifax and say you suspect fraud on your account, this will stop any soft-hits on your credit report.

A soft hit is when a creditor contacts them to make sure your name, address, phone number and work number, and work place all match what you've given them. this is how they suddenly have your information even if you move or change your number.

I hadn't been contacted for years until I updated my work info at my bank. Within one week I was getting 8 calls a day at home and at least one a day at work. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me.

Collectors can do these soft hits and keep harassing you even if you change your info. When you request a free copy of your report, it will show who has been accessing your info through the soft hit.

By putting a fraud alert on your credit file, they can NOT do any more soft hits for information. Anyone trying to do so must get a verbal confirmation from the owner of the file. You must contact the agency every time someone wants to do a credit check on you. Which is fine with me anyway.

Are you certain that they are unable to collect if you are on disability? I am now approved for my CPP disability (recently diagnosed with a debilitating disease) They are asking me to pay just over $100 a month with zero interest for a year then 9% interest therafter. If you are correct in saying that they are not allowed to collect if a person is collecting disability I would really appreciate more information. Thank you!

I have looked for information to confirm that they cannot contact or collect if you are on disability. I would really like to find this information as I am making monthly payments to them but they call me five times daily! I pay them $85 a month and that is far more than I can conceivably afford but I am doing it to eliminate debt. I became ill, lost my new job and our household income changed drastically over night.
