I had gotten a call from a woman named Nicole Hamilton and told us we won $150,000 from Gerber.  They gave us a check for $3,000 and to put that in my bank account and that the rest would come by Fedex and that I would only have to pay Taxes. Is this a hoax??????

We received a letter in the mail with a REAL check for 3990.00 and were instructed to call this Nicole Hamilton at the 416-833-0034 for instructions on how to claim our 150,00.00.  In checking this number with ATT this group has several numbers by which they are working this scam.  We too, were to send tax money per Western Union before we could receive the rest by Fed Ex.  The check is no good--our bank checked into this by calling BancFirst in Oklahoma City.  They state the check is no good and this is definitely a scam--gave us other banks they were using as well.
    BEWARE!

received a check for 3,990.00 along with a letter saying I should contact Nicole Hamilton  @ 1-416-833-0034 and fax receipts to 1-206-202-6365.

The check had no MICR encoding so it was obviously fake.

My son received one of these checks also. This is a scam being run out of Canada. These guys used one of my companies names in a secret shopper scam just a couple months ago and sent these bogus checks all around the country (I'm located in St. Louis). The amount of those bogus checks were $3990. The recipient was to cash the check, send $2900 back via western union and shop with the rest and report on the goods they purchased. We were urged to do 2 things. File a police report so it is on record and to report it to your local postal inspector. Since this is mail fraud the post office is the entity that is empowered to try to chase these guys down. PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE ABLE TO CASH THIS CHECK YOUR BANK WILL HOLD YOU LIABLE FOR THE FULL AMOUNT OF THE CHECK.

Well I guess I will be added to the list of people who thought they would get money.  I knew it was too good to be true.  Thats why I looked it up on the internet.  It also saved me some money by not calling my attorney.  We are the smart ones.  I wonder how many others cashec in on the scam.  God bless um!

I just hung up the phone with this Nicole person and was told by her to cash the check and call her back with further instructions. ha ha ha
My questions is this....if all of us are getting this scam, why hasn't anything been done to shut this adam banton & associates down so that noone else, (that maybe does try to cash the check) gets this sent to them. Why doesn't uncle sam do something about scams like this one? it makes me mad as hell. my husband and i are going thru rough financial times right now and the thought of winning some money was a hugh sigh of relief, only to find that its just another fraud.

I wondered the same thing. So, I called Ms nicole back and informed her that my bank would not cash the check ( i really never tried) and she said she was going to mail me a cashiers check. there was lots of hammering and construction sounds in the background. ??? wonder where she is located, what state.
I would love nothing more than to get the cash.

Just received the same check in the mail.  Thought it was a scam so checked into it and found this website.  For those that are able to cash the check they get the $2920 from the wire transfer which was made from real cash and then you get stuck with a bill from your bank for the entire amount of $3990 and possible charges of theft if your bank pursues it further.  It happened to a friend of mine and his bank filed charges of theft against him.  They later dropped the charges but he still had to repay the entire amount.  So tell your friends and family to beware of these letters and report them to your postmaster general and let them go after these scam artists.
