3/21/18 I received a call at my job from a recorded message  that there was a complaint against me filed with the state department. The call came from 256-346-0531. The call then asks you to contact them at 423-405-1490 and give case number. I called through google talk and was transferred several times. When I spoke with a Tonya initially she stated the case was for skipping out on a loan by closing my bank account in 2008. I asked for the bank account name and she couldn't or wouldn't provide it. I asked for an amount and they couldn't provide it. I asked if I could have them speak with my attorney and she said they wouldn't. She then said I could call 205-348-2409.  I called back and asked Mike what was the company name, he said CRG and hung up.  Its

They did the same thing.  Said that they had a fax of a harassment complaint filed against me. The phone number came from a floresville, tx number but to call 423 area code number.  They used my maiden name that hasn't been used in 10+ years as well.  Said they had documents to give me at my residence or home and that I had been officially notified.

I received two calls from an 6143798482 number and stated that they had been faxed a complaint against me and gave me the 4234051490 so they could give me the documents.  I am a paralegal so knowing this is a scam but just to make sure I looked on the Courts website to make sure nothing was filed.  But really people don't notify you when you get a complaint filed against you.  They either send someone to your house with the documents or send it certified mail. I really hate these kind of phone calls.  I really hate that they think we are that stupid to fall for their crap.

Called my mom and husband looking for me with a case file #. Spoke with rep and it's a bill from 2008. Told her she couldn't collect because the debt is over 7 years and it's been 10. She proceeds to tell me they can and I'm responsible for 20 years. So I asked her did they not get the letter when this debt was placed in Bankruptcy 7 years ago? She hung up. I called back and got another rep who told me they would send it to another department to remove. She said she knew it was in Bankruptcy because it's public record. So y'all thought I was going to pay you? Right. It's a scam.

I called this number back 423-405-1490 and they told me the name of the company was "Choice Recovery Group" and they were located in Texas.  I searched the web and no such company. I tried to get the girl to give me their address but all she could provide me was her fax number and she had to put me on a brief hold to ask if she could give that out.  I called Choice Recovery Inc located in Columbus, Ohio because there was no such company named "Choice Recovery Group" and they said they do not have any offices in Texas.  The area code (423) is from East Tennessee and not Texas so right there is a red flag.  Then they said they are not a collection agency but a "Mediator" between Quick Payday loans and me and they are collecting on a old debt.  They are using my maiden name and saying the debt was taken out after I was already married and changed my last name.  I never took out a Quick Payday loan but they are calling me at home, on my cell and at work.  I spoke to this girl and told her to send me documentation of the debt and do not contact me again.  I told her I wanted to send her a cease and desist letter so I needed her address and she told me to fax it over, which I am not doing.  This is obviously a scam and I would not recommend calling them back but they will continue to call and harass you until someone puts a stop to them.

It is incumbent upon them under the law to prove that the debt exists and that you owe it, and (this is the important part) that they have the legal right to collect it.  You are not obligated under the law to prove that you don’t owe or that it is paid.

Federal law (FDCPA) requires them to send you a letter (US MAIL ONLY) postmarked within 5 days of their first contact that contains their name, physical address, the creditor’s name, and the amount of the alleged debt. It also must contains “mini-Miranda” telling you that it is an attempt to collect a debt and that all information will be used for those purposes.  The one other important thing that this letter must also have in it is that you have a right to dispute the debt within 30 days of receipt of the letter and if you do so, all collection activity must be stopped until the debt is verified.

First, you should make a complaint at this Federal Agency, and while there you should also read up on how debt collection is supposed to work as well as what your rights in this matter are: https://www.consumerfinance.gov/

Also file a complaint with your State Attorney General's office.

My husband has received about three or four phone calls so far from these people but from a different phone number telling him to call this  423-405-1490 number back. Each time they're either a man or woman threatens with the same message that other people are getting...he got another one today saying this is his final attempt warning to settle matter and he needs to  call this phone number  ( their client today) or else the client will have no choice but to move forward in the matter. And that you forfeit all rights in the matter and they are looking for our home  address. What matter is what we'd  like to know. No paperwork has ever been sent to us. I tried looking up this phone number and it brought me here. My husband gets calls  from 541-288-9438 that I can't find either. When I look the 423 number up it says it's in Dallas Texas.
