10:20 pm EST, female caller ID self with Home Depot. Asked if we still lived at this address.

On Dec 8th, 2007 at 2pm I also got a call from a female with a Southern accent who identified herself with Citibank.  She claimed someone in New Jersey just maxed out a charge account at Home Depot under my name.  She claimed they were calling the police on the person and I may be contacted to press charges.  She would take care of closing that account for me so no harm was done.  She recommended I call Citibank on Monday to establish consumer protection services and gave me a couple 866 numbers to call.  She read off my last and current addresses which I confirmed, then confirmed the number she called me on was my best contact #.  A few things struck me as fishy about her call.  I didn't give her any information, but am under suspicion it may have been a scam.

Our office received a call from this number stating that our fuel card had been used out of state and was flagged as possible fraud.  The caller sounded suspicious and was put on hold while our fuel company was contacted on another line.  All of the information that the caller had given was correct and he was completely legitimate!!

I also have receved a call from this woman from this #423 477 6599 one of the cards she claimed had been opened was home depot. I have called home depot and confirmed this had happened. This is not a scam. Do your home work.

Evidently this is a call center for Citibank.  I had written Vikram Pandit CEO Citibank at his office at 399 Park Avenue, New York 10017, about the rate hike on my Home Depot account.  The Home Depot cards are issued and owned by a Citibank affiliate.  The caller asked for James, always a giveaway;  (I hate this first-name culture.)  I was reticent.  The caller had all the right information; I did not give any except the last four digits of my SS #.

The call was legitimate.
