Robo Caller. Supposedly an officer from the Maryland State Police Officers donation fund for fallen officers. At first, he offered various options for amounts of donations, then accepted what I agreed to. Said they would send an envelope to collect it. Then he said not to hang up and they would transfer me to their revenue office to collect my payment information. I told him I thought he was going to send an envelope and ended the call. First of six different robo callers received in the same day.

Your first question should have been whether they are a 501(c)(3) or a 527 organization.  I would bet that if they are honest they would have chosen the latter which is a PAC and donations are not tax deductible.  Regardless, donations to these people go in their pocket and not the "hero charities" that they claim to represent.  If a true charity as identified by the IRS I would bet that less than 2% of every dollar goes to that charity. You can always check out charities on the internet.  One of the best sites is charitynavigator.com.
