- sutton| 1 replysaying owe loans and haVING A WARRANT FOR
- Caller: ASSET FINANCIAL
- Call type: Debt collector
- CWG40 replies to suttonTotal scam. Debt collectors waving around the ward "warrant" in an attempt to scare you into paying them something. Debt is a civil matter. Being in debt is not a crime and you cannot be arrested for it. There are no warrants.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a DIME until the debt is validated.
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.
If they are bothering you,
Report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection
Also contact your local attorney general
If they continue to bother you, and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion. Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved. Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now. If you can find them. - MaxI am in the finance industry and one of my clients called me today telling me he got the exact same call. He had his social security number and bank account information. Unbelievable! They are filing a complaint with the FTC, not that it will do any good though...
- Caller: Scam
- UW| 1 replyThese people called yesterday and I called them back today. They had access to practically everything, past addresses and even got a hold of my credit card! a total scam and I have reported them. I signed up for my credit report on score sense and after that I received a call soon after with these people trying to scam me out of money saying I owed to some place I wasn't even living at the time. A discrepancy on my report made them think I was living there at the time. Damn fools can't get a real job.
- Caller: refused to tell
- JoeyDee replies to UWThe clue here is that you signed up with ScoreSense, a company that has been fined for duping customers. What made you trust ScoreSense in the first place? Did you investigate them before you turned your social security number and other critical personal information over to them?
Google SCORESENSE and read about the $22 Million they have to pay back to the folks they duped. Maybe you're in the class action group that will be compensated. The suit alleges they promised free credit tracking that turned out NOT to be free, but any company that will do such a thing can't be considered trustworthy. - WandaI received a call from this number. The guy says his name is Mr. Sutton. When I ask for the name of his company he says he's from the investigation division, and I continue to ask what is the name of the company but he never tells me. I asked for verification of debt and he emailed me a confirmation of our conversation. But here's the weirdest part of all. The address on the email did not exist anywhere in the USA.
- MemeeI applied for a job I found on Craig's List regarding a job with a local school. I emailed my resume to the link on the job posting - the posting looked very legitimate. I got a response from MDC Group, who apparently does the initial screening for of applicants (background check and credit check). I remember someone I knew applying for a substitute position with the schools and the hiring process was done thru a third party administrator so I went with it. The link to the application said that you cannot use the back button and you cannot quit and come back to finish - it was something you had to do in one sitting. The credit check section said that I could do it for free and it would not go against my credit score, or they could run the credit check which sometimes can go against your score if several people check. So I ran it myself. It did not take long, but by the time I was done they had all my info -ssn, dob, visa, - I felt very uncomfortable with it. I called ScoreSense the next day and cancelled. I am now wondering if MDC is a scam group. There was no address or phone on the email - only way to contact them is by email. Wondering if anyone else here went through ScoreSense because of a job posting?
- Caller: ScoreSens or MDC
