Was it a scam? they called me and I live out of that area code.

Caller with female voice identified self as Linda and asked to speak with someone in human resources in regards to employment verification. Gave them email to admin staff, admin staff got their email and said that it was fraudulent to not to take any calls from them or give them any info.

Female called asking for employment verification for a Jamie Lawerence, informed her we don't have any employee by that name. I have gotten this phone call twice now, and received a fax regarding the same. Not sure if this is a scam call or not, but it has happened more than just the one phone call.

I called back this number to a lady calling herself, Lauren Wilson, and asking if I employed a person with a first name I never heard of and my last name which I never told her was my last name and just asked me to verify if this person worked for me I said no and she said thank you very much. I cannot tell if this is a scam because there was no compromising information asked or given. There was also an extension 10139 and a reference number which I read back to her if it’s a scam it’s definitely a new one and is difficult to identify.

They have an "A" rating with the BBB with 69 total complaints in the last 3 years (they have answered all the complaints, which helps their rating).

They may have been doing an employment verification for a lender processing a loan application, or they may be working for a legitimate debt collector trying to locate a debtor.

Do not claim it is "absolutely a scam" if you are not going to back up that claim with evidence.
