Received a robot/electronic type call today at work telling me I owed on a payday loan from back in 2009.  Some of my personal information was correct, some wasn't.  I told her I'd like to take care of it if they could send me something to show it was my debt.  They sent me a confirmation letter regarding the terms of the agreement essentially giving me 5 day to pay by credit card.  The letter was from Todd Webber, Account Rep.

Don't pay them any thing until you have reviewed the documents. And don't pay by credit card. These scammers will keep charging on the card until the limit of the card is reached. Real companies by law would have sent registered letter to you if you owed them anything. My wife gets calls from these scammers all the time, ignore them til you actually receive a real letter from them if you did owe money to someone.

This is a scam not a legit collection company. Searched # nothing legit comes up. They had called me a couple months ago. Sent me email with some BS attachment. I never took a payday loan out with anyone.

If this were a legit company there would be accredited. Since the search turns up information like this tells us all to not interact or call them. This is a scam, wants CC # to pay them F- that.

"Retrieval Mediation" alleged debt collector representing a payday loan which I did not take out.
Threatening legal action unless account is paid from 2008. They also call my work number!
When I called them to look into the matter, I disputed the case and asked them to stop calling me or I would report them
to the FTC and National do not call registry. The rep angrily replied that she would see me in court.. Yet another scam!!

Make sure to check out your state's statute of limitations on debt.  Signatory loans such as payday loans are non-collectible after they've passed the statute of limitations.  This is why they end up with third-party collectors.  I feel certain if it were a debt that was still collectible, you would have been contacted legitimately either by the original debtor or by a service of process for a lawsuit.

This number keeps calling me also saying they're escalating this issue due to lack of response. I'm pretty sure if anything was ever owed it would've come up in a letter considering they have my information...I'm not responding.

I received a call with the same BS line last week...I didn't give them information but listened to what they said and this sounded quite sketchy.  I had taken previous loans out before from businesses with store fronts, but all had been taken care of.  They said I used an address on the loan that I hadn't lived at for almost a year.  They wouldn't tell me the original amount of the loan.  I asked them to send me something.  Today I received another call saying this had been escalated blah blah blah.  I called the number back and said I did my own research and I did not take out this loan.  And that was my response to their matter, they never sent me an email or anything in the mail.  She repeatedly said they did.  I said look lady, I never received it.  I then said I tried looking up information for you company and couldn't find anything.  I asked for a website.  She said yes we do have one and then proceeded to put me on hold for 15 minutes.  I hung up eventually.  Total scammers.  There is nothing on the BBB or FTC and NO website for this company Retrieval Meditations.  I have reported this number to everyone I can think of.  Do not give them any information and DO not pay them without doing your own research.  A legitimate collections agency will send you documentation and give you their business information.  It is also illegal for them to make threats, which is what they are doing, so please report them!

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

    Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010  FBI National Press Office
    (202) 324-3691

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

got a call from Retrieval Mediation today. Said they'd only send me letters of the loans based upon if I committed for up to 15 days to pay them. Said I owed for 5 accounts, but if I commit, he'd knock out 2 accounts so I'd only owe 3? That sounded weird because you think they'd just give you a settlement amount for them. Sounds fishy and thought it was weird. Doing some research, any help would be nice.
