This is one of those robocalls saying you won a free trip to the Bahamas,if you complete a short survey. It's a scam to get credit card info, don't waste your time. Don't call them back, they use fake numbers!

Actually, it is not the government's fault or the Caller ID.  The phone number can be correct, but technology exists which allows these call centers to only accept calls from the numbers they have already called, but to appear as an out-of-service nhumber if the call comes from anywhere else that they don't set to listen for.  Since you hung up on them, your number was not set as an expected return number.   Don't expect laws to keep up with the pace of technology or the intent of unscrupulous people.  Take care of your own safety first.  Do Not Call is a good start, but yes, we do need better than that.  Why don't you invent a solution?

I received a call from this number about 20 minutes ago saying, "Congratulations, you've won blah blah blah.".  Unfortunately, I recently got a new Android phone, which is currently unrootable, so I'm unable to use my preferred call blocker app, "Root Call Blocker".  So these spoofing, Robo-dialing, [***] managed to get thru and ring my number, instead of being blocked without my phone ringing even once. Really gotta fix that ASAP.

This phone number is calling my home constantly! Morning, noon, night almost daily. Sometimes more then once a day. I have a serious family medical issue I am dealing with and this harassment is so insane and out of control I could scream. Not calling it back. I googled the number to see what I could find out. Appreciate every ones post. Obviously a scammer.

Consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so. If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. For tracfone & straight talk:

For text messages: forwarding any text message spam you get to the short code  “7726,” which spells “spam” on most phones, to alert your network operator to the abuse. ATT won't accept 7726 But they will accept BLOCK and return a message that the web site is blocked. forward the texts to 7726 or BLOCK, depending on your phone carrier.

Received a call from 480-662-1844. I didn't answer, no message. As for Do Not Call, I have been told that the systems used to make telemarketing calls are random numbers that come up and there isn't a code to determine that it is on the DNC list. Not defending anyone because I am annoyed too, but just answering to some of the comments here. There should be a way to keep our numbers from telemarketers, but apparently we aren't there yet.

Received a call from this number. When I answered they hung up on me. I called the number back immediately and got a Verizon message stating the number is no longer in service,  has been changed or disconnected.

yeah, they ust did the same thing. They wont tell you how you "won" anything, but want all your info. Totally a scam. They keep calling back even though I asked a few times to be removed, so I now I just give them fake info. You know, My name is Big bird, i live on sesame street, etc. It took him a few minutes to realize I was screwing with him so he hug up.

Received my 25th call from this no. today.  Fortunately, I blocked it on the second call months ago.  Now at least the phone doesn't ring.  They're too stupid to realize they've been blocked, or the robo machine just keeps on calling the same numbers until they get an answer.  Keep calling suckers, I just chuckle when I seen the no. come up on my TV for a second or two.:)

They mostly call numbers at random, so try solving that one.

Try solving other crimes, too. :-)
