- platespinner| 1 replyJust got a call on my cell. If this number is to Macy's as above posters have said, I can't see why they'd call me. I have NO dealings with Macy's. No credit cards, don't shop there, anything. I suspect it's a scam. Have had 2 other calls today from 2 other random numbers that I have no dealings with. Did not answer any of them. Seems like someones up to something.Weird!

- macI just received a call from this number. The caller identified herself by first name and that she was with Macy's. She asked to speak to my wife by name. I had the person repeat their name and who they were with. I asked her what she wanted. She said she wanted to verify some information and to tell her she called. I asked what type of information she wanted to verify and she hung up. After checked the number online, I called back the number to speak to someone, which I did. If fact the call was legitimate and an example of the system working. My wife was shopping with my son and did apply for a Macy's card (to get 25% off). However, we had put a fraud alert on our credit reports because we had a major credit card number stolen about 6 weeks before. Because of the fraud alert, Macy's called the number on the fraud alert, my number, but had to speak to my wife at that number because it was the number listed on the fraud alert. I was surprised the caller hung up on me, but now understand why and am happy to report the system actually worked properly.

- John| 1 replyt's a valid number. The company is Macy's and they call to verify that ordered placed using your address/credit card were actually placed by you.
Macy's is being pro-active about stopping fraud. So be happy people and stop whining.
Also, they call regardless of whether you have a Macy's card or not ! If someone placed an order using your information and Macy's thinks the order is suspicious, they will call.
I placed two orders online at macys.com using an American Express card. So I received two calls asking me to confirm I placed the orders.- Caller: Macy's
- Areal replies to JohnSo smart you are, I agree!!

- local 671This is Macy's and they are calling to verify your information in regards to your card or a purchase made to your card. Just my experience. They called to verify the email I was sending a e-gift card to and before I even said the complete email address he finished off the rest "hotmail.com" and that was exactly right so he was legit. I was waiting for him to ask to verify my credit card number and that's when I would have hung up and reported them in to the authorities. You can call your local Attorney General's Office to report fraudulent and scam callers. Help everyone stay safe from world wide thieves.

- local 671Forgot to mention that I had missed the first call from Macy's 480-929-3000 and they called back within a few minutes from this number 513-398-5221. This was my first time purchasing from the Macy.com website online E gift cards and they called me to verify the email I was sending the E gift cards to. I expect the next time I order the E gift cards they will call me again to verify the email I will send it to as well. This was holiday season 2013. It's good to know they help to make sure your purchase is true and correct as there are too many identity thefts, stolen cards, and human error when keying in information.

- LA AustinI put an order this morn in to Macy's, they called me and hung up when I answered. If they wanted to verify, they should have stayed on the line as a normal business would. Calling and hanging up when I answer is hugely unprofessional, I won't buy from Macys again if this is the underhanded business behavior they want to put forth.
- Caller: Macy's
- Veronica from VA BeachI don't have a Macy's account and I haven't shopped there in years. I did not answer. But thank you for letting us know.

- LC| 3 repliesI don't care if it really is Macy's or not, but leaving a voicemail with someone asking me to return a call and be ready to hand over my account number seems unbelievably stupid. It is even dumber if it really is the Macy's fraud department asking you to give your account number over the phone to some random stranger......something that you are told NEVER to do. No other bank or credit card company EVER asks for your account number over the phone or leaves you voicemails asking to return a call with your account number handy. I think they have the most absurd fraud department and whoever runs it should be fired. I checked my statement and have no charges at all that would be suspicious or even any recent large purchases. I don't have time to chase down these idiots trying to verify if it's really Macy's or not to verify a $20 purchase that I know I made.
- Ruby replies to LC| 2 repliesI work in the Fraud Department at Macy's and the majority of you have no idea what you are talking about. There are reasons that Macy's asks certain questions, doesn't answer other questions, calls you, etc...and it all pertains to protecting account information and keeping people from being able to circumvent their anti-fraud measures by knowing what Macy's looks for and why.
- Ruby replies to Ruby| 1 replyP.S. @LC.....The reason that you probably don't have any weird charges on your statement may be because Macy's system caught the account discrepancy when someone tried to use your card number to buy something and the order was automatically canceled and then they put a call in to you. Their system tells them when a card number's account owner info doesn't match up with various information pertaining to the person trying to use the card (the country they're trying to use it from, etc etc).....Stop being such an angry idiot and be grateful maybe??
- Jim replies to RubySo Ruby claims she works for Macy's Fraud Prevention, and calls LC and people like her "angry idiots". ,Sounds to me like one more good reaon to never sign up for a Macy's credit card.
- James replies to SarahI've saved this number to my caller ID under "scam" so if they call again I'll know to ignore it.
- anne| 1 replyIt is a valid number. I had an old Macys gift card that had to be re issued. They just called and left a message saying it was being shipped and the balance on it.
