If you have every entered *any* personal information that corresponds with a massive consumer database called "Accurint", owned by Lexis-Nexis, into virtually any Website, they will telephone you.  

The robot they use will immediately hand up if you use words like "police" or "illegal". Over the course of several calls I played along to extract information from the human that eventually comes on the line.

After the 45th call, we filed a criminal complaint against them here in PA. The police have requested authorisation from the attorney general's office to monitor the calls. There's a very good chance of an investigation under both the FCRA and federal telecommunications law.

Or in a phone book??? cmon there is a hardcopy of everyones number

Screamed about 15 curse words in a row, robot quit talking and hung up... Frack Em!

They called, I said "hello," they hung up.

that number keeps calling me and i dont answer and theres not voice messages either so i dont do anything

I was foolish enough to respond to US gov survey.  And now these calls on my cell phone. I'm on the "do not call" list but regardless of how careful I am, the scammers & spammers call.

Get this harassing calls all day and every day  - will not stop

this is a message board for discussing spam and scam phone calls.  No one here can block calls for you.

For a land line you can buy a call blocker, a device that plugs into the phone line between the phone and the wall.  It also plugs into the power line.
Many smart phones come with a call-blocking app, or you can download one.

For a simple cell phone your carrier might offer call blocking, but it might cost extra.  Or you can put the pest in your contacts list and assign them the ring tone "no ring" or "silence"  That will send the pest to voicemail without ringing.  If you get calls from lots of different numbers you can put all of your authorized callers in your contacts list and assign them ring tones (they can all be the same if you want ) and set your default ring tone to "no ring" or "silence".  That will send all of your pests to voicemail.  Unfortunately  the call from your son at the police station or the hospital where they just took your mother will also be sent to voicemail.   You have decide if its worth the risk.
