Called to collect a debt. I've never heard of the debt, but had business with the company she mentioned at the mentioned time period. She said she will call back with more details. Three days - no calls yet. Beware. Don't give them any information untill they provide proof of the debt.

Called today and yesterday and 4 times last week. I finally answered to see what it was, and they asked for my adult daughter. I told them she didnt live here, but I could take a message for her. The guy then began a long winded story about her having a debt that he needed to collect, he went on and on. I finally stopped him and told him I would tell her. He said he was collecting a debt for Chase (so it's a collection agency, and he didnt give the agencys name).

He called BACK a few minutes ago and asked had I spoken to her yet! Three hours after the first call. I told him I didnt think he should be discussing her business with me or anyone else since she is an adult. I asked for him name and phone number and he said, "Ok can you hang on one second?" I said sure, and he HUNG up!

Called this morning at 8:57 am (which isn't that before the 9:00 deadline when telemarketers start calling?) and asked for Edward. I told him he had the wrong # and he hung up. No more calls since then.

Well, my dad just came up to my room and told me to check this out, he said it was really creepy. A number 500-000-0000 called him and he said all they said were they were creditors, but he said they had a really funny sounding voice, they hung up after that. Kinda strange huh, so have any of you guys heard back from them since then? This was the first call we got from them.

My father-in-law received a similar call today, so he called me because he knew that the alleged debt did not exist (I will not disclose here how he knew). He also said the woman would not identify herself and would not leave a call-back number. Nor would she send proof of the debt.

Clearly, this is FRAUD. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION THAT THEY CAN USE TO ACCESS YOUR OTHER ACCOUNTS. tHESE PEOPLE ARE PHISHING!!!

Legitimate collection agencies, by law, are required to provide proof of the debt (when requested) and contact information, both address and phone. If they do NOT give you this information DO NOT TRUST THEM!!! Ask them to send proof of the debt via certified mail. Tell them you are willing to pay the cost of the mailing if the debt proves to be legitimate. IF THEY DON'T, YOU WILL NOT EITHER. Tell them to take it to court.

If they do indeed take it to court, they must provide documentation of the court filing and you will have a number of days to reply (varies by state). Reply and also file a motion for discovery requesting all documentation held by the petitioner regarding the alleged debt. If they go to the trouble of filing a lawsuit, it is likely legitimate and you need to settle up.

Also, watch out for another guy who is identifying himself as Warren Hill. This person is running a similar scheme. Do NOT give him information and do NOT send him any money. Follow the advise I posted, listed below.

Called and asked for Julie or Judy Brenner. When I told the lady that she had the wrong number she got angry with me and continued to tell me that I was lying to her. Would not identify herself of where she was calling from or what she was calling for, besides Brenner. She continued to tell me that I she didn't understand because she had my number for Brenner in her computer and contined to get angry with me

remember guys, if any debt collector is calling you for a debt - whether it is still valid or whether it is old -(and therefore uncollectible*) for you or for someone else-  you do not have to accept calls from any of them.  you simply ADVISE -not ask- them that they may no longer call your number.  Let them know that whoever it is that they are trying to reach, and for whatever reason (you don't have to verify one way or the other), that they must do so by written correspondence only! Once you do that, they are not allowed to call again- they can only correspond thru mail.  And tell them furthermore, that if they call your number one more time thereafter that you will file a complaint with the FTC.  you do not have to engage them in conversation or answer any questions of any kind. (you do not have to verify any info at all-even if it's you they want to talk to or if they just want you to verify if it is the number of the person they are trying to reach) Ignore the questions and restate once more that they may no longer call that number; written correspondence must be how they contact whoever it it they are looking for; and that they have been advised. then simply hang up. engage in nothing further and let them start writing to you. if they do call again, make a complaint to the FTC. Please see BUDHIBBS.COM if you are being harassed or getting calls from debt collectors.
*(statutes of limitation to collect vary from state to state- so check yours @ BUDHIBBS.COM- a great site! It would be illegal and that would be your defense if they did sue past the statute of limitations in your state. if they sue and you don't bring this defense up, they could win a judgement even though it was no longer collectible. hope this is helpful if this number is from a debt collector.

Got a call at 8:10 this morning on my way to work. Was in traffic and
didn't really hear who he asked for-but did hear the last syllable which was erry-which was really close to my last name-he then said he was trying to start a judgement against me for Capital One- I said I don't have a Capital One - he said "you did", then asked for the last 4 of my social. I told him I didn't have to give that to him. He told me I was a liar. I told him to get f****d.

My mom got a call from this number asking for me - when she told them I didn't live at home any longer the guy on the phone explained that he was trying to collect a debt from me that I had acquired in the same county as my mom, which is completely false.

a day later I recieved a call from the same # on my cell, but I did not answer.

She said she was processing a claim against my daughter in a county in which my daughter has never live in nor have I. They also called my business line and left the a message. How in the heck did they get my cell# Gees, what crooks won't do.

I was a loan officer for 9 years. It is against the Fair Debt Collection Act for a debt collector to disclose ANY reason they are trying to get in touch with anyone other than the person they are seeking. This is called Third Party Disclosure:
"There are NO circumstances that allows them to divulge information to a third party. If you can catch them on tape violating the FDCPA your daughter could probably sue them or file a complaint with the FTC or state Attorney General. You need to be able to prove they broke the law so if you have other witnesses to this that may be sufficient." - quoted from Michael Brotherton, www.financialemergency.com
