Received a call from someone from the "IRS".  I wasn't home, but they left a message.  The caller had a strong Indian or Pakistani accent and indicated that the IRS is proceeding with legal action against me for unpaid taxes.  When I called the number given to me I got a standard message indicating that the person was away from the phone.  I don't know anyone in this area code and when I called the IRS office servicing this area, I got something that sounded a lot more professional than the call I received.  This is a scam.

There is a fairly common IRS or "tax scam" being practiced by scammers on both Canadian and USA residents.

Short answer:
The IRS never initiates a contact via phone.
They always send a snailmail first.

I was told I had been picked by the IRS to receive $300,700.00. That I should respond by calling 509-207-4304.
Yeah right, if I can't see this as a scam I should be beat with a stick.

Hey just FYI , I too had a call from this number and when I called the irs they showed a tax return was submitted using my social security number so I would call the IRS ident theft hotline on their website and check to make sure everything is as it should be, don't want to freak u out but you don't want to go through all the [***] I'm currently dealing with,, all those identity hackers should be water-boarded then shot in the gut and left for the coyotes in a canyon

Called me saying they were the United states grant office and that I was selected to receive a tax free grant.
