- Ro| 6 repliescall came in 8:40 pm! Says they are from the IRS. Sounds like another scam to me.
Anyone else getting this call?? - Alfalfa replies to RoMany thousands---with millions of dollars swindled.
These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.
If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.
The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.
By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.
Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.
They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.
Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.
The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.
If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.
http://money.cnn.com/2015/01/22/pf/taxes/irs-tax-scams/ - s jonesI received a call from "unknown" and let it go to VM. The message was a recorded female stating the IRS has been trying to reach me and is filing suit against me. Call 509-207-4767 to avoid lawsuit.

- fb| 2 repliesThese fools called and left me a VM saying IRS has filed a law suit against me and its urgent i returned the call. I decided to humor them. I called them and was told they sent two letters to my house but they can't tell me who signed for them. The phone call from them was my final option and since i ignored their letters they will be seizing my house, car, bank account and drivers licence. I called the real IRS to inform them of the scam and then tried to call them back and they blocked my house number. I called them back from my cell and proceeded to cuss them out and they also blocked my cell number. I called from husbands phone and they blocked it as well. So i *67 my number before i called them and called and harassed them for about two hours for pissing me off. One of them had the nerve to call himself Paul Walker and he has what sounds to be an Indian accent. The other was Ben Stewart. I wish someone would come to my house and seize [***]!!!

Do consider getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $40.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number. - Jan replies to Roreceived this call also, stating IRS is suing us. I agree, seems like a scam.
- fb replies to TamianthI downloaded this app that showed me they're calling from Papua New Guinea...not sure how valid that location is.
- IzzyI got a call from them this morning. I answered, hung up immediately and blocked the call. I knew it was a scam because the caller ID said the call was coming from Haiti. I don't know anyone living in Haiti. Last week I got a fake IRS scam call from another number. I messed with them a bit before hanging up and blocking them too. Fun times.
- Caller: Scam
- freddyGot the same IRS call..now blocked.. They are a bunch of "A" holes

- deegeeI got two calls from this number today. I hang up after I hear a few words.
- TimpI did not answer so they left a voicemail. Usually the voicemails from scam calls are unintelligible, but this one was (unintentionally) pretty funny. It is transcribed here so everyone can have a chuckle:
Hello this call is officially a final notice from IRS, Internal Revenue Service. The reason of this call is to inform you that IRS is filling a lawsuit on your name because you had tried to do a fraud with the IRS Internal Revenue Service and we are taking a legal action and we are issuing an arrest warrant on your name. To get more information regarding this case file, just call us back on our departments number.509-207-4767 I will repeat it, 509-207-4767. Thank you.
I obviously was not too bothered by it, but it should be stopped before someone with a poor grasp of English falls for it. Note that I have copied the message verbatim; it actually said filling instead of filing, and stated that the lawsuit and warrant were ON my name, along with all the other bad grammar.- Caller: IRS Scammer
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- Ruureceived this call at 3:30, voice message from IRS, I
hung up and. blocked.- Caller: IRS
- Call type: Prank
- Josh replies to RoYup first of all they left a message with an automated voice. If it was really the IRS, i wouldve received something in the mail first, and if they did leave a message, it would be an agent not a machine
- aggjrg replies to RoYes just now. I am reporting them to the Federal Trade Commission, it is easy to do, they shut them down very quickly. Also there is an email hotline at phishing@IRS.gov which works too.
- Kristen replies to RoYes, I too received a voicemail (sounded very much like an automated voicemail) and said they were from the IRS and to call them ASAP.
- Michael replies to RoYes, got the same call
