they call often and ask for someone who does not live here!

Yup, debt collectors.  They will leave a message though with some reference number.  That is how you know they are trying to collect money.  You won't get the same person that left you a message.

They are not even calling me but someone i know that is only a friend. They ask for me but it is not even my #. I own no one $$$ and checked all my bill and are not behind on any of them. I do not understand why they are calling a friend and not me. I have no clue how they even got there phone #.

Yup I get calls as well from these [***] and dont ANYTHING

Just got two calls right in a row. The 1st time, they hung up..2nd time she started leaving a message and I killed the connection.
Isn't there any way to stop them from calling besides blocking their #?

Had a call from this collector who "claims" I owe on a medical "past debt going back to 2005...
Asked for copies of the original bill so I can validate but haven't recieved anything to help me varify. This is becoming annoying.  They also use different numbers each time so it becomes an issue of they say and I say and the annoyance continues.  I want concerns in writing clearly with original statements...I have no idea who or what is collecting for ...?

I just got a call from them today while I'm at work. All she did was leave a voicemail saying that I need to get a hold of her gave me her name number and reference number... Ummm but excuse I'm not going to call you back if I don't know what company is calling me and in regards to what... So she shouldn't be expecting a phone call from me. I just dished out almost 2 grand for medical bills that I owed from my hospital stay last year. My boyfriend has never had debt collectors call him for his medical debt and yet now I'm getting harrassed because I owe money when the state wouldn't even help me? They were going to start garnishing my wages before I paid it off completely. This is crazy!

I got a call from them for a past medical bill. Its a legit bill but I was unaware of it because its something my insurance was supposed to cover. When I called them back after they left a message they gave me the date of the visit and the clinic it was at so that I could verify it. I called the clinic and it was legit. Then I called my insurance and they fixed it.

They called and said, "Trudy, This is _(name)_  at 888-222-0000 ext 000 and you need to call me back right away."    

There was no mention that it was to collect a debt, no mention that I should hang up if not this person, no mention that it is a confidential call, no mention of the company being represented or identification of what the debt might be...nothing. I think this is illegal from what I understand.

Or maybe this was Publishers Clearing House calling to tell me I had just won 10 trillion dollars! Any bets?

For me this was a pre-recorded political voicemail.  It was not locale-specific, and wanted to get me riled up about amnesty and illegal immigration, and then press 1 to be connected with my Senator's office to complain directly to them.

Woops, thinking I was looking at the wrong phone number when I reported that as a political call.  I believe this was Chapman Financial (have received calls from them in the past), but the voicemail just said it was Larry Folsom and wanted a call back at 1-800-215-7795.

They called me and not knowing the # I answered they said they wanted to know if my parents were there scared the crap out of me. Why would they even have my # if they were a financial group
