Didn't answer call because these suddenly-new tele #s are almost always spam. Based on Philip's post, I'm going to block this un
known number.

Started getting rash of new calls from various 214 AC numbers. Blocked # after reading comments on here.

Yes this is a SCAM.  Callers from Area Code 512, Exchange 717 area are perpetrating the FOP fraud.  Don't expect the government or local law enforcement to do anything - you're on your own!
I put together a software program that has logged and currently block over 500 of these nuisance calls since 2010.  Those of you that let the calls roll to your answering machine, voicemail or worse yet answered the call you have just ensured you will receive more of these calls.  Maybe not from the same number, but they’ve just identified your number as valid which almost assures more calls.  Most of the initial calls originate from software (aka; ‘robocalls’) – once your number is identified as active, then a real person may be there on the follow up calls.  If you have the capability to ‘BLOCK’ the number that called – that is the best action.  If you don’t have a blocking option, keep a phone with caller ID close by and simply hit ‘talk’ and ‘off’ simultaneously.  This will reduce the number of nuisance calls, but not stop them.  If you really want to block them – in addition to several cordless phones available there is software that a layman can install.  Of the over 500 calls I’ve blocked, I've only added 16 over the last 3 months.  (Most of those are from a new series of numbers)  So the message is simple – blocking works….  Using the aforementioned processes I seldom have a second call from a given number.  But, when I do - I love it when "Number Blocked" shows on my 'Caller ID!!!  (When they call repeatedly it causes me to wonder about how stupid some of these dummies really are!)
Additionally;  The Area Code, Exchange or even the entire number displayed on your caller ID may not accurately reflect the origin of a call as many of these crooks use software that disguises the originating number.
PS:  I think Call Notes should add a 'Call Type' for 'Spoof' or 'Scammer Calls'!

CID:  Out of Area.  Rang three times and stopped before the answering machine picked up.  Immediately, it happened again.  Now blocked.

I answered the 4th call today from this number to find out what kind of moron keeps calling from Austin multiple times every day and never leaving a message. A woman asked to speak to my younger brother by his full name, and I asked her why she was calling him on my land line. I told her that he has never lived at this address he's never used my phone number as his contact number. I told her that I have no idea how to contact him since he retired over a decade ago. She started to ask another question when I cut her off and requested that she remove my phone number from her contact list, and then I just hung up on her. I blocked her number and hope that this is the end of it.

Rang three times and stopped. Based on comments by others on here, number now blocked. Thank you, everyone!

Many harassing calls!  Don't know how to block these spam calls!

Phone blocker zapped it. I LOVE my phone blocker. I have had it since 2012 and while not a perfect solution, it helps SOOO much.  Usually, the phone rings once and then comes the zap! I have Phone Tray, but there are many on the market and most are inexpensive and work!!  Just make sure you get at least 250 blocks. You can block entire area codes, so that is helpful. Or you can block by the caller i.d. name. Even so, you WILL eventually reach the limit. So you'll have to go back and delete some of the earliest ones. No big deal.
