- Kimberly| 2 repliesThis number is a scam. A woman named Grace Peterson said she was from processing division and she was a paralegal. She needed to talk to my husband. She had him verify his social. She then transferred him to a man named Brian. He told my husband he was going to issue an arrest warrant for him. He said it was for a payday loans my husband defaulted on back in 2008. Unless we came up with 928.99. He gave us an hour. We could only come up with 300 dollars. He then had my husband money gram him the money. The next day we did some research and it's a big SCAM... now we're out 300 dollars.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans
Washington, D.C.
December 07, 2010 FBI National Press Office
(202) 324-3691
The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.
According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.
The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers. - CWG40 replies to KimberlyThis is a total scam operation. See: http://mrnumber.com/1-512-827-3541 This same "Grace" person appears in all of them.
Warrants are only issued by judges to duly constituted members of law enforcement. They are only used in criminal cases and are served in hand. Being in ordinary civil debt is not a crime and you cannot be arrested for it. This is a total scam meant to scare you into paying something.
Just because a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt does not mean you owe it
If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:
1. Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
2. Demand a debt validation letter by US mail. E-mail no good.
3. Do not pay the collection agent or anyone else a DIME until the debt is validated.
Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply block their calls and ignore them.
If they are bothering you,
Report them:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection [Threatening criminal prosecution in order to collect a civil debt is a violation of the federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act]
Make the complaints and be sure to include a copy of the moneygram and the actual payee and payee's address.
Also contact your local attorney general
Go back to whoever issued the moneygram and see if the instrument can be reversed. At least make a report that you have been scammed.
It's almost certain someone else will try to scam you again. Beware and take care. - LucianaI received a call from 512-599-8003 I was told that 12:00am my drivers license would be suspended and warrant would be put out for my arrest because I told not to call my phone.
