- nelato| 1 replymy mom, sister, aunt, and myself all received a call from this man in Texas claiming to be working with a collection company for check n go or their collection agency. I live in IN. He said his name was Mark Pritchert and that I was on a list of 25 people who where about to be brought up on fraud charges and warrants issued in a matter of hours. Claimed I was sent a letter two weeks ago in regards to this matter, which I never got, and that he was only calling because I have no criminal history and he was trying to help keep it that way. He said I needed to pay almost 800.00 but if I could come up with 500.00 , in an hour he would try to stop them from processing the warrant and would give me two weeks to pay the rest. It was very upsetting and confusing because I haven't heard anything about this loan since like Nov last year. Yes I owe them but have not had the money to pay and I think I called before they even ran the check to tell them the account was closed and that I had just become aware of it so there was no money. The company said they had to send it thru anyway. Was this a scammer too
- Caller: I can't recall what they said
- Tamianth replies to nelatoROFL.. Sounds more like a extortion scammer. Which is totally possible.Extortion scammers seem to get a hold of a lot of peoples info, especially if they filled out online loan forms. Debt is a civil matter, not criminal and you can not be arrested for it. The threats are a major violation of the FDCPA laws. Here's the information for loans regardless for your state:

And you should contact the loan outfit itself and see if they actually turned it over for collection and to who if they did. They would know. - BrianMy wife got a call from this same number. They told her that since this was her first time, they were going to give her an opportunity to pay before they sent her file to a court. If it was sent to court they were going to put a warrant out for her for "Felony Charges." My wife told them that she was a victim of identity theft. They told her she would go to jail anyway because they had evidence it was her. My wife was about to pay but luckily she decided to call me first. I told her not to pay a dime. I contacted our prepaid legal lawyer. He said they were full of crap. You can't press criminal charges on someone for civil matters. He told me not to worry about it. He also said if they persisted with these BS threats, that they were in violation of FDCPA Laws and I can sue them.
