- Caller: ??? Claimed to be city of Austin
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- G replies to snonymoudSame thing happened to me today. Amber alert style msg regarding a missing senior citizen. If it's a scam, who benefits?
- A| 1 replySame thing here, but at 10:30pm and 2:15am. Sadly, I do think it’s the city waking citizens at 2am to let them know an Amber Alert is called off. They need a better method.
- Caller: City of Austin

- CGot a call at midnight Silver alert, then again at 2:30 to cancel message. I called this morning same number and pressed option 3 and was told it is an automated Alert system in my area (I’m assuming only landlines!) I was given a number to call to be taken off the list, 512-916-6000

- Tygerkat replies to MwYour post is nearly 2 years too late. And why are you even here? Do you often look up known phone numbers then give no useful information on the call?
- KB2021Received a text from a random number, then a call from this number - both about a missing child in Travis County. Text had a link to click on or reply Yes to confirm. Why would they need confirmation of receipt?? Voice mail from this phone number more descriptive saying to call the number back
- Call type: Scam suspicion
- B replies to AWhat method would that be?
- Lauren| 2 repliesMissed a call from: 512-974-0845.... Haven't seen a VM come in yet. Caller ID said "Travis County Shr".... Any idea if this is a legit call or a scam and why on earth Travis Country Sherif Department would be calling me?.....
- Caller: Said Travis County Shr

- BigA replies to LaurenIt the Sheriff's Department was calling you they would have have left a message, unless they were figuring to pick you up in which case they wouldn't call ahead. If this were any other type of emergency they would have left a message. All of that should be commonsense if anyone had that these days.
- AltexI missed a call from 512-974-0845 Sat 2/7 @ 8:29 PM on my company work cell, which I almost never use. Recents (cell history) shows "STATE OF TEXAS", and no voicemail left. I wonder if it was Austin's city-wide Boil Water Notice and they are trying to let people know. My company is in Austin, but I don't reside in Travis County.
Or it could someone posing to be from that # as hackers at good at that now, pretending to look official, then scam you for personal info.- Caller: State of Texas
