I also got several phone calls from richard smith saying I owed 3 pay day loans totaling 1300.00. When I asked if I could bring the money to him he stated he would have no paper trail to prove I paid it. He wants me to wire or put on a credit or bank card. Or he says I will be arrested.

I also got the same call from Carter Gibson and I did get arrested. This will be my 2nd offense. I thought this was all bull s**t til I got arrested. I had to pay over $3,000 in fees. My attorney basically said I was F**ked! Now I have this on my record forever! My career is over!  I hope these people rot in hell for putting me in jail! I almost lost everything and my kids behind all this mess!

[***] you are in India and no one gets arrested, liar but hopefully they will arrest you in India for trying to scare us in the US. There is no debt, these are all lies and a few Indians have already been charged. Only a matter of time. These are a few stories on recent charges against Indians in Feb and April 2012.

Not racist, truth is an absolute defense to defamation. I love Indian people, the scammers are gangsters from a very poor area of India. They barely have toilets and no shoes, do your research. Most Indian people are honest, good, ethical people. These people are the lowest of the low. They frighten and embarrass people with arrest and seperation from employment and family. They deserve every curse/insult you can throw at them.

This guy from Gibson Carter call me to today and says that I owe some payday loans and that they are going to file in Indiana and I will be arrested.  I went to their website and started doing some research on  the internet and found this website.  They are crazy if they think I am giving them a dime.

I received a call from Thomas Gibson from Gibson, Carter and Associates stating that my Husband and I were committing FRAUD and if we didn't call him back that day, he was going to the States Attorney Office to issue a warrant for our arrest.  The number on my Caller ID showed 513-223-6681.  This Thomas Gibson also called my Parents and told them to get in contact with me because it's a Fraud matter and he would have me and my Husband arrested.  I was scared and I'm not going to lie I'm still scared because this isn't right for a person to call you and your family talking about FRAUD.  I looked this guy up on the web and Gibson, Carter and Associates came up and they have a website and everything.  I'm going to contact my police department today for advice, but I do know I'm not calling them back.

    George,

Julian is correct in his response to you.  Like most people today, you probably don't fully appreciate what the term "racist" actually means.  At its heart, it is a political philosophy.  I think like many, you have it confused with racial prejudice.

But what is being discussed is a socioeconomic problem.  India is a country where 41.6% of the population survives on less than $1.25 a day.  The impoverished population of just eight of India's states is greater than that of the 26 poorest African nations combined. India is one of only three nations where the Hunger Index has been increasing.

Those of us who spend a lot of time and effort in attempting to locate and thwart scam activity know that India is a location which crops up much of the time.  More distressing is the fact that huge amounts of personal financial and medical data is being transmitted to India as part of global outsourcing activities.  This combination of sensitive and valuable data, in an environment filled with poverty and desperation, is a powder keg which is just beginning to show signs of the inevitable and devastating explosion which is to come.

So, not racist Georgey Boy, REALIST.

That looks like a completely fake web site. Very , very obvious fake. Not even close to what a real law firm's web site should look like.

I do not want to give away the reasons because I don't want these people to get any ideas. Don't worry, these people that are calling you are in India, they can't do anything to you.

Richard Smith calling my HUSBAND's family members saying he is investigating a case on me and is unable to contact me.  Any legitimate company would have no problem contacting me.  He said for me to call this number back and he gave a case number.  I have never used the people he called as references as they are over half the country away from me. Any legitimate company would have my contact information and my number or numbers.

So, I received a call from this same number 513-399-4914.  It's still "Richard Smith," but he's using a new company name, "Check Investigative Service."  The guy knew my name and said it was in reference to a relative, who was obviously fictitious.  I checked up on "Richard Smith" quickly on the internet and confirmed my suspicion that this is A SCAM.  Don't be fooled by anyone named "Richard Smith" calling from "Check Investigative Service;" it's all FAKE!

Do what I did: call your Attorney General and local police department, get it documented, and let the authorities set your mind at ease.  Who are you going to trust, some bogus guy calling out of the blue or a REAL attorney and the police.

Here is what is happening: a fraudulent call center / fake debt collector is using the name of a legitimate business named "Gibson, Carter and Associates" to call consumers who took out a payday loan, sometimes a long time ago and try to scam the consumer into paying money. The call center / fake debt collector is spoofing the caller ID to make the call appear to come from Gibson, Carter and Associates" when in fact it is not.

The scary part is that the call center / fake debt collector has actual consumer names, SSN's, telephone numbers, addresses and bank account information.

So all of the complaints to State AG's, the FTC, and BBB go against Gibson, Carter & Associates, who did nothing wrong. The fake debt collector probably got Gibson, Carters' employee names and phone numbers from their website.

There are multiple victims here: Gibson, Carter & Associates, whose good name is being sullied; the consumer; and the original lender. All of whom waste time dealing with these fake debt collectors who have somehow managed to obtain consumer data.
