I have had several calls saying the it's for kids with cancer. Yesterday they changed their pick up for "paralyzed veterans of America". They've asked for my email a couple times

Have also blocked.  They leave no message.  Caller ID says, Merchandise Puckup.  I called number from different phone and they answer with the person's name but unable to understand  them after that.  I hung up immediately without answering them.  Scam.

Frequently get this, showing number only, but I let it go to machine.  No message ever left.  If a collection for clothing, etc., probably figure better to talk one on one than leave messages.  If they did, maybe they'd get more return calls if people want to donate clothing.

This is a call from a charity asking for donations of house goods kids  stuff  ect...not a scam call i have had them pick up before.

Called at 8:12 am. Ridiculous!  I was still in bed as one member of the household had to work late last night. I picked up the call and immediately clicked it off.

Called my mother trying to do the kidnapping scam--had a girl in the background saying "help me".  Reported to the police.

Personally do not answer many calls from out-of-area phone numbers that I do not recognize the phone number.   When the call went directly to an answering machine, the caller yelled something just prior to the recording starting, then the caller hung-up.

starts with a recording saying "if you'd like to make a donation please stay on the line" then a person came on saying "Hello, Mrs...(my name)" and then hung up.  No other message - if it is a charity you'd think they would tell you what they are calling for and ask you to call back if you are interested in donating.  Fishy

Tired of calls...everyday.  I do not answer calls from numbers I don't recognize.

Have asked them to put me on their "do not call" list. Have blocked their number. Yet they still call. Their number doesn't accept calls. I think they are a scam.

This time it was Paralyzed Veterans of America.  I told him I didn't donate in response to phone calls and hung up.

get several calls a week from this number identified as merchandise pickup. Never leave a message. These continued interruptions have got to stop. If we get 20 calls a day, 18 are unwanted calls. It's time for the phone companies and FCC to enable us to block these calls or stop them altogether.

Called my landline .  ID said merchandise pickup. When machine picked up they hung up.  No message left.

This is a Identity SCAM, Spoofed #, Robo call reported to DHS, DOJ, and FTC, National Do Not Call Registry.

Charity organizations should try calling the rich & famous first before trying to get donation funds from the retired, disabled, the already underprivileged.

Your contention is an urban myth. The calls from this number have been from vet groups that come by on designated dates to pick up donated clothing.

Yes and Hummm....  Since 2017, more info has come to light at about the "Yes Scam" calls, that the damage done is, as you say, largely Urban Legend. I have changed my posts accordingly.

As to if calls from this number are "Legit" - That is up in the air. In 2017, I believe I was right to advise caution.  Still today, the posts here are back and forth between "Legit" and "Danger". I am guessing the number is being spoofed.

If you are expecting a pickup from a charity you have contacted, the calls are probably OK.
If you are being called for $$ donations from this number, the caller could be either the legit charity or scammer spoofing the number.  Thanks for giving me the chance to make a correction to that old post.
