I received a call from this number today, identifying themselves as Card Fraud Detection.  At the time I was on the phone with my credit union removing a block due to a suspicious charge on my credit card.  This number left a message saying they were verifying a charge and gave the last for digits of my credit card.  The call back number was 1-800-238-8604. I called the Credit Union back and they confirmed that this is one of the many phone numbers used by the company that looks for fraud.  So this appears to be legitimate.  However please be cautious.  If it is a legitimate call they will tell you everything and only ask if a specific charge was in fact made by you.

called at 5:33 pm today.  Caller ID says VANTIV.  Didn't answer and ended up blocking them.  If they are legit then they will have to find a different number to call me on.  Don't use Vantiv or even know what they do.

Legit but tell them you'll call them back and call the number on the credit card you just used.

Made a big purchase with my CC at 4:56 and got a call from this number at 5:03.  Ignored it and tried to use my CC to pay for a meal a few minutes later, it was declined.  My CC is a bit too trigger happy with their anti fraud and that's a very good thing.  I called the number on my CC and after verifying information they said it had been flagged for fraudulent activity and then went over the purchases.  They were all mine and everything was OK and my card was unflagged immediately.

    HOWEVER.

Never ever verify any information from any incoming phone numbers.  It is very easy to "spoof" phone numbers -- even though this was legit, I've been called by numbers that showed up in my phonebook, and the information they were trying to confirm just didn't seem right.  And I called back and nobody had been trying to call me so it was a spoofed phone number.

This is in addition to any unsolicited phone call that you don't know.  Never answer any call you don't know about, and you don't have to answer any legit call either -- they will be aware of the possibility of criminal activity and will never have a problem leaving a message telling you to call your CC or your bank.  Don't call the numbers you are given in the message, only call the numbers on the back of your CC or call the number in the phone book for your bank.

It's better to be safe than sorry, it's a good thing to be inconvenienced by fraud prevention.  These days people only need one or two at most pieces of personally identifying information and they can figure out the rest easy enough to the point they can steal your identity.  It's shockingly easy to take over someone else's ID and every financial account related to that person.  Never, ever confirm anything or even say "yes" or "no" if somebody you know calls.  Don't even speak, just hang up.  Or just never, ever answer any call you are not expecting.

This a legit caller.  I confirmed the number with the credit union that issued my credit card.  They where calling to confirm suspicious activity on my credit card.  My online account confirmed someone in another state was using my credit card number.  They had made a little over $300 in purchases in about 2 hours today.

this number called and left a voicemail. They said they were card fraud detection and listed my MC's last 4 digits. The odd thing is that MC has been expired for almost a year so there is no way it has any fraudulent charges on it.

We get so many nuance calls that we just let them go to the answering machine.  The nuance callers usually just hang up and move on and come back later.  But today this number left a message that they were checking suspious activity on our card (gave last 4 digits) and asked that I return the call.  Rather, I called the number on the card and immediately recognized the voice as being the same person that left the message.  Bottom line, someone had used our card to make purchases ($500 plus).  The card was frozen.  I'm glad we followed up before more purchases were made.  This time the caller did me a favor.

This caller was legit.  Fraud detection for my credit card, correctly identified a fraudulent charge.  I verified by calling the number on the back of my card.

Credit Union charge card personnel calling about an attempt to buy from a location outside the USA.  This explained why I could not buy desired software.  Used a different card before they reported this.  Good watchdog warning!
