Craigslist Scammer #. " Can I send you a cashiers check blah blah blah" Same old scam they've been using forever. When I'm in the mood I tell them yes, send the check to "Frederic Bernard Ignacio" and give them the address of the local FBI office. ;)

Can I send you a cashiers check blah blah blah?  I gave them a fake name and a fake address.

Tried to purchase some chairs I have listed on CRAIGSLIST. Even though I said cash only tried to "offer" $50 additional dollars for me to accept a cashiers check.

This is a craigslist scammer who called himself Jason (to me—I’m sure it changes with different people). He solicited for my item, gave the excuse that he was out of town, and requested to send me a cashiers check overnight have movers come pick up the item as soon as I deposited it. He offered to pay $40 extra for the courtesy of the hold, which would have brought the price total to $240. I requested he use PayPal or Venmo instead, and he insisted that he could only do a cashier’s check. The check arrived 5 days later for $1750. You could buy the items new for less than $400. The check did not have a phone number on it from the issuing institution. It didn’t even look like a cashiers check, just a regular one.  The mailing envelope said it is from New York. A Google search of the phone number says it’s from New Jersey. The check said it was issued from Abatech Services Inc in Georgia, and the issuing bank was listed as being in Atlanta, Cincinnati, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Salt Lake City. EVERYTHING about this a scam, and a poorly run one at that.

I'm glad I thought to look this number up after receiving a similar text (copied below) and feeling a bit leery of it. I looked up the number thinking this was odd (and I didn't like the idea of giving my address and name so they could give me money). Here's their message: "I'm glad it's still available...i love the picture on the posting....I’m out of town at the moment...can you accommodate mailing you a cashier check overnight delivery, I will add $50 to the sale for the hold. Movers will come for pick up when the check is cashed. What’s your mailing address and who should I make the check payable to?"

What happened once you received the check?  Try to deposit and it gets declined?  Accidentally just gave my info and then looked this up after... oops :( Any risk at all, or just delaying the actual sale?

I see they're running the scam described below under the name of paul cohen now. I stopped responding.

Yeah, this scammer continues to milk innocent folks on craigslist. FBI will get him.

I'm curious to see what they will ask next. After i tell them the fake check is cashed what is the next step of their scam. Does anyone know?
