The scammer, identifying himself as "Steve Martin," left a message saying that ignoring his call would cause me to be summoned in front of a USDOJ grand jury, and that I should call and cooperate. No other information.

Steve Martin 530 406-9957.  Left message saying he was from the US Treasury regarding an enforcement action.  He left no specifics about the issue and did not use my name.  I ignored it suspecting it's a scam.

Tax identity theft is the theme of the week, but it’s not the only tax scam we’re talking about. Complaints to the FTC about IRS imposter scams have shot up over the last year — by almost 50,000 complaints.

Here’s what happens: You get a call from a scammer pretending to be with the IRS, saying you’ll be arrested if you don’t pay taxes you owe right now. You’re told to wire it or put it on a prepaid debit card. They might threaten to deport you or say you’ll lose your driver’s license. Some even know your Social Security number, and they fake caller ID so you think it really is the IRS calling.

But it’s all a lie. If you send the money, it’s gone.

When you have a tax problem, the IRS will first contact you by mail. The IRS won’t ask you to wire money, pay with a prepaid debit card, or share your credit card information over the phone.

If you get a call like this, file a complaint with the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at tigta.gov. You also can file a complaint with the FTC at ftc.gov/complaint. If you’re concerned there’s a real problem, call the IRS directly at 800-829-1040.

Yup, "Steve Martin" called my house and left a message about the DOJ.  I didn't know the DOJ outsourced its legal matter services...I spoke to a friend who works for DOJ, and he knows nothing about this.  Scam.

So this guy with the lovely british/india accent telling me his name is Steve Martin made me laugh so hard I had to listen over again.
I know someone who got in trouble with IRS and they do EVERYTHING by mail.  The mail you worry about is "notice of intent to assess" that means they are coming after your assets.  You have numerous opportunities to solve the problem prior to that.  The guy at the local IRS office was real cool about the whole thing and they set up a payment plan in less than and hour and that was that.
In case they are reading these posts, they really need a better caller ID than "unknown caller" and a phone system that doesn't sound like the call traveled all the way to India?!?!??!

I received the same "DOJ grand jury threat" call from "Steve Martin." The recording didn't mention my name or anything. This is a scam for sure.

You think that if it was real they would at least use a name when saying who they were trying to contact.

I, too, received a call from Steve Martin at this number 530-406-9957 claiming to be from the U S Treasury and threatening DOJ action. I didn't talk to him but he left a message to call this number back. He didn't ask for anyone who lives at my house so I figured a scam.
