- ChrisScam. Said that within 45 minutes they would send Federal Marshals to my home to arrest me.
I hung up.- Caller: Said they were the IRS
- Call type: Debt collector
- Ed| 1 replyThey are using an old scam that they try every year around tax time. Best way to stop them is to record an out of service recording. There are many available. After a call or two they will give up and move on. The first few times they will stay on the line to see if it is real or not. So, be sure and record it several times on your machine so they give up.
- Bob WA message was left on my home phone saying Dennis Gray was from the U.S. Treasury, I was being prosecuted for tax evasion, I needed to call 561-935-5169 as a warrant had been issued for my arrest. I called back, they sounded professional (or better put they knew some information about me to make the call believable, but as I pressed them I was getting suspicious). My call was handed over to the "Supervisor", and I was told if I hung up the phone that the warrant for my arrest would be immediately issued and within 45 minutes the Sheriff would come to my house to arrest me. The supervisor (his name was Anthony) sighted several citation numbers and laws stating I would be going to jail for tax evasion if I hung up the phone, and I would be put in jail for a minimum of 1 year. He wanted me to go to my bank, take out the amount of money he said I owed in cash, then go to either a Mejers or a Jewel store and purchase "tax Vouchers", and then mail those vouchers to the U.S. Treasury. As I had this person on the phone I googled his phone number as listed above and a number of people listed messages (like mine) exposing the scam. At that point I asked Anthony the supervisor to identify me with my social security number, he said he could not say my number over the "recorded secure phone line", I then gave him permission to read off the last 4 of my social security number, he gave me the same answer. I told him I would be ending the call, this is a scam, and I would be reporting it.

Good Luck and keep reporting. - Howard replies to Too Smart For This>Called it back for fun....disconnected me!
I got the same message today too. Just checked here and find it amusing that it is already a "club". I like your style. You're inquisitive. This puzzles me too. A scam like this makes money by tempting unsuspected responders to some sort of money drawing scheme. But if they don't pick up the phone on call-back, then what is the point? How do they make money? Why are they wasting their time? - John XTotal scam. Foreigner claimed to be from the IRS saying this was a second attempt to collect back taxes. Something about a grand jury.

- SteveSame call as all of the above from Dennis Gray - very threatening on my voice mail. I called the number back and "Carolyn" answered. I asked her what was the message from earlier. She said Dept. of Treasury, owed taxes, etc. (like all other calls reported here) and when I told her to not call my number again, she said the federal marshalls will be coming to get me in 30 minutes. I told her to send them. I'll be waiting for them. It's been over an hour. Report this call to your local police department and FTC.

- SFOFUSame scam call message x2 left on VM 4/8/15. Left detailed complaint on scam calls with both IRS complaint site and FTC complaint site. Keep documenting complaints to these agencies, and local PDs. These scammers are successful in victimizing older adults who are more trusting and also compliant when exposed to "authoritative"-sounding scammers. Document complaints to IRS and FTC--IRS has reported success on their website in tracking down US scam supporters who money launder from US "money vouchers" and "green dot (cash) cards" into money orders then sent to scammers.
