My dad, over 80 years old, in Long Island, NY, received a call from someone who identified himself as Vic Henderson (search this site for other 567-253 numbers to find similar stories).  Said he was from Sparks & Ebel, law firm, representing Publishers Clearing House, wanting to make an award of $100K.  Wanted to do a wire transfer to my father's account, after which a processing fee needed to be wired back.  Blah blah blah.  Luckily my dad, who doesn't have a computer, told me about the transaction BEFORE it took place and I was able to investigate here.

Sparks & Ebel is actually defunct but I spoke to the office of former partner Sparks 567-342-0690 and they were going to add to the growing case of the Fremont OH police 419-332-6464.  Luckily I got my dad to phone there and he now understands that this is a scam.  There is apparently a prominent attorney in the Chicago area with that name, so this sounds believable if someone does very basic research.  I had to go to the second Google results screen to uncover the postings here about scams.

Thank you to the people who built this site, and to those others who've posted here.  If not for you, my father's next Social Security check would be gone, and we'd be looking for emergency county housing for him.
