- 2DamnNice| 1 replyThe exact same thing just happened to me, almost verbatim, to the other stories on here: Jessica Mathews, pregnant and alone in the city because she had just come here from Atlanta, approached me for cab money to help her get home to LaPlata to get her daughter after she had been in an accident. I gave her more than I would like to admit, but something in me was suspicious, and I should have listened to that. I called the number she gave, and it just rang. That's when I Googled and found this board. I called Metro PD to report it, and was told, essentially, too bad, so sad, you're too nice and she didn't break any laws. I made a big deal with the lady about how it was Christmas and time to help others, I guess hoping to appeal to a conscience if she was a scammer...guess there isn't a conscience there. I actually feel sick.
- Struck again replies to 2DamnNiceJust for the record, it just happened to me as well. I even helped her into a cab when she cried about her daughter. I probably need the money more than she does, after reading these other experiences. This woman needs to be apprehended before she hits more gullible fools like myself. And we should all form a support group.
- NoMorMrNiceGuySad to say, I got scammed last week.
Someone needs to put and end to this soon.
I wish I had seen this site earlier.
No more Mr. Nice Guy, I've been burned 2x now.- Caller: 571-296-3544
- AnonymJust got scammed for $180 last night. Exact same thing. Feel like such an idiot...I'm a college student who can't really afford it.
There doesn't seem to be much one can do...I reported it to the cops. Someone really does need to stop this. - She's Still At ItSaw her at Metro Center two nights ago at about 8:45 pm- she needed $69 cab fare to get to Maryland, she had just been in a car accident and needed to pick up her daughter. She said her Mom was a Metro cop, and she would pay me back on Monday at noon, near the law office where she just started working after moving here from Atlanta. She was well-dressed, wore her straight hair in a small bun, had a cane, wore a white plastic rosary and was crying for 20 minutes while she went on about how she was a Christian woman and was just hoping she could do something like this for someone else one day. She even hugged me. What an evil and sick woman to manipulate and take advantage of people in this way. I will definitely be reporting this to the police.
- Scammed at L'Enfant| 1 replySame MO and this lady is still at it. Incident happened around 7:45 August 30 near the L'Enfant Plaza metro stop. Claimed she worked at the Verizon Center, got into a car wreck, had just moved here from Atlanta, and needed money for a cab to La Plata. I feel like an idiot. She had the same appearance as described by the poster She's Still At it on August 18, right down to the plastic white rosary. She claimed her mom worked for the Capitol police, and because the car that was wrecked belonged to her mom, she couldn't claim it after the wreck. I thought she was a scammer, but something made me help her out anyway. No good deed goes unpunished these days.
- SCAMMED replies to Scammed at L'EnfantThis happened to two different women that I work with. She claimed that each was in an accident and needed money for a cab to La Plata. She said that her mom was a Capitol police officer named Lt. Matthews with a badge number of #2340.
- SHE IS CONTINUING TO TAKE ALL OF USSame story on this lady is still at it. Incident happened around 7:00pm September 24 at the Farragut West Metro 17th street exit. Claimed she worked at a law firm at 1808 18th St at a Law office she is the receptionist there, got into a car wreck, had just moved here from Atlanta, and needed money for a cab to La Plata. Claimed the taxi company would take care and charge her a flat rate of $160.00. How dumb of me, I was just trying to help. She is very convincing as previously stated, tears, shaking, cane. Claims to be disabled. Yes, she is still wearing the plastic white rosary. She claimed her mom worked for the Capitol police, got into an accident car totaled and her knee was swollen and EMT provided her with ice. She also want you to go to the ATM to provide her with the full amount of money. Was not that dumb. This woman needs to be caught.
- MarieShe is still working--Unfortunately, I met up with her last night at L'Enfant Plaza on D Street about 8 p.m. Same story different name. Like everyone else I feel completely foolish. The story didn't really hang together, but it was just plausible enough and her acting was just convincing enough to draw me in. Hopefully, posting an additional note will help others not fall victim to her lies. I did submit a police report on her.
- Another Hit| 1 replyShe's still at it, hit outside L'Enfant Plaza Metro at around 8:00 PM on 6/9/2015. Claimed she needed $58 to get back to Virginia after leaving her things in the car after an accident on the bridge. Said her name was Jennifer Hart and worked at the Department of Agriculture, even gave me an office title. Was very believable, crying with a cane, claimed to have "bone cancer."
- Becca replies to Another HitShe's still at it. June 15, 2015 at about 6:30pm near Metro Center.
Exact same thing happened to me. Bone cancer. Crying. She's a good actress. I'm out $200 that I don't have. She used the same name, Jennifer Hart. I'm really upset...was just trying to do the right thing. I will no longer give money to anyone on the street, ever. She's blown it for those in need. - Another one bites the dust...This woman is incredible - she got me yesterday (8/9/15) at E and 13th. I like to think I'm a decently intelligent person, but it sounds like I've been the biggest sucker so far - she convinced me to give her $300 so she could get home to St. Charles, MD and go pick her daughter up from the elderly woman who was watching her. Same story - stage 2 bone cancer, just moved here from Atlanta to be close to her mom (who she said was a secret service agent), car towed after an accident on 14th street. The water works really got me. Will be filing a report today after work, though I'm sure this woman will never get caught.
- Stupid on my walk homeI was walking down Pennsylvania Ave toward Metro Center. Same story...bone cancer, Atlanta, mother out of town, car accident. Needed to get to St. Charles MD. Got me for $120
- Martine - asked questions and got awayPentagon city, 7pm 02 November. Same exact story in some way as many of these posts. Went by Jennifer Hart. Had me at my heart strings and had already given me her contact info (hadn't given her any cash yet) but then I asked for the number of the day care to validate her story - disconnected. Didn't have any other (sure). The asked to see her ID from pentagon. Claimed she worked there. 'Left it in the car' that was towed. Right!!!! Too many holes so I walked away. Told her as much. Sorry for those that got scammed but if someone really wants your help don't be afraid to ask questions to confirm/validate story & Identity. Glad I did.
- Scammed| 1 replyShe got me too, last Saturday (11/28). I wish I would have found this message board before I gave her $120. She flagged me down at the corner of 14th Street and Jefferson Drive SW, near the Monument. She told me she'd been in a car accident, hit by an Uber, and her car was towed away but the police were unable to take her home because she lives across state lines, 2 hours away in Charles County. She said she had just moved to DC from Atlanta so she didn't know anyone, and her mom was out of town. She really laid it on thick telling me about her bone cancer and her 3 year old daughter at home, and she had a cane. She also told me all about her mom (a Capitol police officer) and her job at the American History Museum. She even had the audacity to make me promise to stop by her job for a tour! She was incredibly believable--tears and all. So believable, that I allowed her into my car so I could drive to the ATM to get the money she needed (I did pick up my mom on the way though, so I wouldn't leave a stranger in my car).
I knew there were some aspects of her story that were fishy: (1) I doubt the police would leave a person (especially with a cane) who had just been in an accident, (2) she was inconsistent on when she started at her job (she said it was her first day but she also talked about her coworkers as if she had known them longer, and she was wearing jeans), (3) first she said the taxi ride would be about $89, but then she gave a higher range and begged me to make sure she had enough and (4) I don't think there is actually a part of Charles County that is a full two hours away, which I mentioned to her but she retorted telling me that she lived on the far end of the county.
I was pretty disheartened when I found this message board and confirmed my worst suspicions. My boyfriend is from Georgia and he always tells me that Southerners are so much nicer than Northerners. I thought about that when she told me she was from Atlanta, and I tried to be nice to a stranger despite my doubts. I was on my way to pick up my mom and my grandmother downtown after buying toys for my Salvation Army Angel Tree child and I was feeling big-hearted and embracing the holiday spirit. I hate that she took advantage of my kindness and I have been really bothered about the whole thing since then. Back to my cold Northern ways. - Scammed replies to ScammedOh, and she also told me her name was Jennifer Hart.
- SusanJennifer Hart, or whatever her name is, is back. She got me at 15th and K St NW. Car accident, moved from Atlanta, has cancer, needs cab fare to get back to Charles County, MD to pick up her daughter from daycare. Cries and shakes and tells you she'll get you money back next day. Feel like an idiot. I should know better. If you get caught, call the MPD Financial Crimes Unit at (202) 727-4159.
"Jennifer Hart" is maybe late 40's, heavy set (size 18 to 20), perhaps 5'6" tall. Hair is pulled up onto head in a chignon, and she is using a cane at this point. If she approaches, tell her you will help her find a police office. Don't get suckered like me. - AnonymI was scammed by this woman in Pentagon City. Claimed she was Jennifer hart. Very believable. I am glad to know others got scammed by her. Shows me there are good people in the world to make up for this piece of [***]
